As a Data Scout in our Data Strategy Group (DSG), you'll help find, validate and promote the external datasets that power trading at Jump. Demand for new data is growing quickly, and your main job will be finding it. You'll map the alternative data landscape, identify new vendors and datasets, and do the first round of vetting, so the team focuses on the most promising opportunities. Working closely with DSG team members who partner with our researchers, you'll keep a strong, well-qualified pipeline of new data flowing.

What You'll Do:

  • Map the landscape. Track the alternative data market by category (e.g., consumer transactions, web and app activity, geolocation, satellite and shipping, supply chain, sentiment) and stay current on new entrants and consolidation
  • Find new vendors. Source datasets through your network, industry events, marketplaces and research, with an eye for early-stage and niche providers
  • Vet opportunities. Assess each dataset's viability and potential use cases before it goes to the wider team
  • Package and track. Write concise vendor summaries and keep our data catalogue and pipeline current
  • Represent Jump externally. Serve as the first point of contact for new vendors and attend industry conferences
  • Share insights. Keep the team informed on market trends, emerging categories and gaps in our coverage

Skills You’ll Need:

  • At least 2 - 5 years in the alternative data ecosystem, at a trading firm, hedge fund, data vendor, aggregator or marketplace
  • Strong knowledge of alternative data categories and vendors, plus an established network of vendor contacts
  • The ability to judge a dataset's quality and coverage from samples or documentation. Proficiency in Excel is required. SQL or Python is a plus
  • Familiarity with alternative data compliance issues, including privacy, consent, web scraping and MNPI
  • Clear, concise writing
  • Excellent organization and follow-through, and comfort working independently

Benefits

  • Discretionary bonus eligibility
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • HSA, FSA, and Dependent Care options
  • Employer Paid Group Term Life and AD&D Insurance
  • Voluntary Life & AD&D insurance
  • Paid vacation plus paid holidays
  • Retirement plan with employer match
  • Paid parental leave
  • Wellness Programs
