Job Description
Passionate about delivering business insights and navigating meaningful metrics?
Reporting to our VP of Health Informatics, we have an exciting new role to join our Digital, Informatics, and Technology Solutions (DigITs) organization as Director, Business Insights and Product Analytics. This role presents tough challenges ahead but a rare opportunity to create a vision that involves, inspires, and activates change among target audiences. You will work closely with the VP of Product and Informatics leaders to ensure our products are delivering on client needs, surpassing goals, and seeking new ways to innovate.
As Director, you'll have primary responsibility for all data analytics efforts to support Digital Products development at MSK. Additionally, you will participate in business strategy discussions, determine how KPIs impact operational and financial performance of the business, work with DigITs Product and Technology teams to strategize & forecast accordingly.
In addition, the Director works closely with DigITs and Memorial Hospital Leadership, MSK Clinical Departments including Nursing, Hospital Administration, Strategy and Innovation, and other departments to define and manage informational and technological needs for business intelligence and insights as well as deliver clear and actionable technological solutions, reports, dashboards and analytics to support these efforts.
You will:

  • Advise business groups by providing technical and strategic reports that identify and address business issues and opportunities. Ensure that policies and procedures align with corporate vision. Select, develop, and evaluate personnel ensuring efficient operation of the function.
  • Serve as Business Insights/Analytics subject matter expert in Digital product metrics, internal data, and lead a team of Business Intelligence Analysts
  • Develops and executes a multi-year BI strategic roadmap with input from key stakeholders and customers, setting priorities and balancing stakeholders' needs to ensure short- and long-term goals are met, including the process of integration of Business Insights and Analytics into current decision-making processes, enabling effective evidenced-based decision making across the entire product development lifecycle.
  • Creates a mindset of "Actions from Insights" across the DigITs BI and Product teams and beyond
  • Directs the work of the BI Analysts, including leading the metric development for broad range of analyses, with priority focus on key performance indicators (leading and lagging indicators) for Digital Products and Informatics, as well as other operational and clinical projects.
  • Lead the BI team in choosing and using the right technology to build dashboards, mine data for insights, and report out on findings. Oversees retrieval and engineering of data for analyses, often from vendor application.
  • Presents conclusions and options for action to senior managers and leadership.
  • Leverage data sources: Institutional Database (IDB), Darwin, Unified Data Fabric, Strata financial data, Application Programming interfaces (APIs) and others to develop and refine data strategy for a variety of use cases.
  • Determines strategy to evolve DigITs Business Insights team's maturity level from descriptive to diagnostic reporting, predictive analytics to proscriptive outcomes
  • Partner with digital platform teams, senior leadership, physicians, nursing, and others on developing overarching framework for measurement; identification of methodology depending on the project goal.
  • Develop new and innovative approaches to leveraging Informatics tools and approaches, including research opportunities as identified by the Division of Digital Products and Health Informatics
  • Plans, guides and manages the functions and activities of employees in the BI team, including recruitment, training, staff development, career progression and overall management of team members
  • Builds analytical capability of BI resources through guidance, consultation, and training as the expert on the selection of appropriate tools, the identification of drivers, trends, and proactive opportunities from the data, and the presentation of insights as a visually compelling story
  • Establishes specific goals, measurements, and benchmarks to define success. Provides staff with guidance, mentoring, and performance feedback as well as development opportunities
  • Leads the team in performing analysis and development of data products such as reports, models, forecasts, and innovative data visualization outputs to support BI strategy and decision making
  • Manages the capacity of the BI team and provides oversight in prioritizing backlog of work based on MSK's defined strategic and operational priority goals
    Mentors BI Analysts, working with team members on professional development, meeting performance goals etc.
  • Ensures budgetary compliance of the BI capacity through review and approval of all purchase orders, check requests, petty cash vouchers, travel vouchers, work requests, etc.
  • Assigns and tracks team members' allocations to run/initiative work for costing purposes.
  • Reviews budget reports for variances in the assigned areas; anticipates, analyzes, and resolves related problems; investigates problems/variances involving billing procedures and records; analyzes institutional financial reports and prepares variance explanations, as required.
  • Works with Finance Manager to investigate and follow up on discrepancies; initiates corrections via existing institutional mechanisms


You have:

  • 8+ years of experience mentoring a team of BI analysts and turning business vision into action
  • Comfortable navigating all parts of a transformation effort from leadership discussion to hands-on analytics work with the team
  • Strong proficiency with SQL, Python, R, Tableau and knowledge of marketing analytics preferred
  • Understand how to leverage big data to identify and solve problems to improve overall decision-making
  • Ability to balance attention to detail and fast execution with a strategic vision
