Director of Data
Trialspark is a technology company that brings new medical treatments to patients faster by reimagining the clinical trial process.
Today, clinical trials are deeply inefficient. A single clinical trial can cost more than 100 million dollars and less than 10% of clinical trials are completed on time. Our mission is to bring treatments to patients faster by addressing these inefficiencies.
Background
We’re hiring a Director of Data to help drive the growth of our business by better understanding our patients, our products, and our operations.
Our data team is tasked with extracting actionable insights from our data, supporting the analytical needs of teams throughout the company, and working with health datasets to improve the execution of our clinical trials. We use a full-stack set of methodologies and tools to achieve this, taking a data science problem from the initial open ended business question, to the eventual productionization and implementation of a model.

- Create custom models to understand patient behavior, operational analytics, and trial-related datasets
- Advise and guide exploratory data projects/strategic initiatives with datasets from external vendors
- Build tooling and frameworks that enable other analysts to iterate quickly on data science problems
- Work with business stakeholders to create metrics and self service reporting around key questions
- Design and analyze rigorous experiments aimed at understanding patient behavior
Relevant Experience
- At least two years of experience managing a team of Data Scientists
- At least a BA/BS degree in a quantitative or computing focused degree, with a preference for MS/PHD

- Expertise in either R or Python, preferably with experience writing production quality code for predictive systems
- Expertise in SQL, with basic knowledge of database design and warehousing concepts
- Nice to have: experience working with public or vendor-provided health datasets
