In partnership with public safety, RapidSOS has created the world’s first emergency response data platform that securely links life-saving data from 450M+ connected devices directly to 911 and first responders in an emergency. Through the platform, we’re providing intelligent data that supports over 5,200 Emergency Communications Centers, protecting 95%+ of people in the US, across 150 million emergencies annually.

What this role is about: 

At RapidSOS, we rely on insightful data to power our systems and solutions. We are looking for a motivated Data Products Engineer to join our team who will identify ways to make the Data Science organization more effective at ensuring data availability, quality, and consistency. You will work collaboratively with other data scientists, product managers, and our engineering teams to build a platform that provides life-saving data to dispatchers, currently covering over 95% of the US population.

What you’ll do: 

  • Own the entire lifecycle of data products (ie. statistical and analytical models) from data ingestion to to the end consumption of the user which includes development of processes and pipelines, QA, deployment, etc.

  • Automate and productize analytical processes and data pipelines

  • Implement statistical, analytical, and machine learning models to support the backend of our products to provide insights on 911 emergencies

  • Manage processing of data ingestion and pipelining; ensure all critical data sources are being ingested into the data warehouse

  • Collaborate with the data science team, machine learning engineers, and product stakeholders to ensure the end-to-end success of RapidSOS solutions

  • Research publicly available sources and public APIs to incorporate and enrich the data that we use in our intelligent data platform

What we’re looking for in our ideal candidate: 

  • 3+ years of experience in software engineering, data engineering and/or machine learning engineering

  • Solid background on software design, architecture, testing, continuous refactoring, TDD, deployment, APIs

  • BS or higher in Computer Science or similarly quantitative/technical field or equivalent experience 

  • Experience with relational and NoSQL databases

  • Experience with any of the following object-oriented/object function scripting languages: Python, Java, C++, Scala, etc. 

  • Team player - desire to work side by side with a diverse-background team of data scientists, both on statistical and ML models

  • Project thinking and delivery - proven ability to be provided with a goal, be able to break it down into deliverables and tasks, and be able to successfully complete and deliver the project

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

Bonus (is a plus but not required, the team is willing to train on these topics!):

  • Experience with any of the following technologies: Hadoop, Spark, ElasticSearch

  • Experience with data pipeline and workflow management tools: Azkaban, Luigi, Airflow, etc.

  • Experience with data processing architectures, machine learning modeling, ML Ops, statistics, data storytelling, and/or UI/UX

  • Experience working with big data sets and the AWS ecosystem
