Flex is an early-stage, remote-first FinTech startup that is bringing flexible payments to recurring bills. It’s hard to believe that it’s 2022 and you’re still not able to choose when you pay your bills. Flex is here to change that! Flex is a multi-bill platform. We began by revolutionizing rent — Americans’ largest recurring bill. We enable our users to pay rent and bills throughout the month on a schedule that better fits their finances. With Flex, everybody can better manage their bills and budget. After deliberately keeping a stealth profile as we built up unprecedented investor support and an enthusiastic user base, we plan to scale to 300 team members in 2022. Will you be a part of the team?

The Credit Risk Manager role is part of the Credit & Risk team, which focuses on Credit & Payments Underwriting and Fraud Prevention. The Credit Risk Manager will be responsible for developing our payments risk prevention system, building transaction-level performance-prediction models, and incorporating these models into our valuation frameworks. The Manager will also be expected to incorporate their recommendations into the Risk Roadmap and Strategic plan, and work with operational and engineering teams to execute on recommendations, including changes to automated underwriting policies; including pricing, line assignment, fraud-management, and approval decisions.

You will work closely with finance, analytics, and development teams across the organization, to ensure flawless execution and accurate expectation-setting from recommended policy changes, and to build analytic tools to scale the productivity of the team.

We are looking for enthusiastic people with strong integrative thinking and analytic skills and the ability to operate in a white-space environment. The Manager is expected to be able to work with other Flex team members across multiple functional roles including Data Science, Analytics, Sales, Customer Service, and Product Development teams located across geographies.

What you'll do:

  • Develop deep understanding of our payment and repayment methods and rules, and the economic trade-offs of letting through or preventing transactions on a real-time basis.
  • Own and enhance the set of fraud protections used by the Business to control payment and identity fraud.
  • Utilize existing and proposed data sources and tools to improve underwriting policies and models
  • Improve the procedures and rules used to review corner cases and exceptions.
  • Optimize and maintain forward-looking valuations frameworks at both the transaction and customer level
  • Work closely with product and development teams to implement recommended strategies.
  • Communicate findings and recommendations to Senior Leadership within the organization
  • Analyze loss and performance trends in the existing portfolio, including working closely with Flex’s risk and finance teams to update loss forecasts and volume projections.
  • Provide recommendations on investments in external data sources or fraud and underwriting tools

Who you are:

  • Experience in transactional payments space, both in outbound payments and inbound repayment attempts
  • 4-7 years of experience in the financial services industry
  • Experience with financial lending products, including an understanding of the economic drivers of loans, line-of-credit and credit-card tradelines
  • Experience with Credit Analysis, Business Intelligence Analysis, or Data-Driven Product Analysis.
  • Strong Integrative thinking skills, and ability to understand and solve complex business problems.
  • Ability to communicate with Senior and C-Suite audiences.
  • Ability to evaluate and recommend external data sources, tools, or vendors.
  • Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally with different roles within the organization
  • Creative, motivated, out of the box thinker.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and follow through.
  • Strong technical ability in SQL and MS Excel or GoogleSheets

  • Candidates with the following are strongly preferred

  • Candidates with some experience with Python, and the ability to evaluate machine-learning models.
  • Familiarity with the laws, rules, and regulations governing lending within the United States.
