This is a remote position.
The Database Administrator will support the Texas Health and Human Services Commission on the Oracle database upgrade and ERP support initiative. This role is responsible for maintaining the stability, patching, and scalability of critical database environments supporting multiple concurrent ERP implementations and upgrades. The Database Administrator will design and execute database upgrades from Oracle 19c to Oracle 23ai and maintain multiple environments supporting ETL activities. The role requires hands-on experience with Grid Infrastructure setup and maintenance, security vulnerability compliance, and performance tuning. This is a senior-level position requiring independent judgment and a high degree of technical creativity in resolving complex database challenges.
Responsibilities
- Designs and executes database upgrades from Oracle 19c to Oracle 23ai.
- Maintains multiple database environments supporting ETL activities.
- Sets up and maintains Grid Infrastructure, including ASM and Clusterware.
- Implements high-availability solutions using GoldenGate and Active Data Guard.
- Performs performance tuning to improve database processing efficiency.
- Monitors database performance and recommends efficiency improvements.
- Performs logical and physical data modeling and creates physical data models from logical data models.
- Maintains data dictionary standards to ensure uniformity of definitions.
- Executes backup, recovery, and disaster recovery procedures for hardware and software failures.
- Ensures compliance with security vulnerability requirements and database security standards.
- Assists in the installation, analysis, design, and implementation of databases.
- Ensures database administration interfaces comply with EIR Accessibility standards.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
- 8 years of experience in infrastructure management with Oracle 19c version or higher.
- 8 years of experience with Grid infrastructure (ASM, Clusterware).
- 8 years of experience with high-availability solutions (GoldenGate, Active Data Guard).
- 8 years of experience with advanced scripting (Linux, SQL).
Preferred Qualifications
- 4 years of experience working with a public sector organization (Federal, State, or Local Government).
- 2 years of experience working with a hosting vendor.
- 2 years of experience working with Oracle PeopleSoft products.
Additional Requirements
- Candidates are subject to a pre-employment security review to determine employment eligibility.
- May be required to work outside standard business hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as requested.
Work Location and Schedule
- Location: 4601 W. Guadalupe Street, Austin, TX 78751.
- Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, excluding State holidays; may require hours outside this schedule depending on project activities.
- Work Arrangement: Remote (Telework); if changed to hybrid, in-office schedule will be negotiated.
