As a Demo Architect, you'll help GitLab teams and customers get hands-on with our platform faster and with less friction. This role reports to the Senior Director of our Solutions Architecture Center of Excellence, with day-to-day partnership from the current team lead. You'll build and improve the tools, applications, and infrastructure that support pre-sales demos, workshops, trials, and internal test environments across the field.
What makes this role unique is its mix of software engineering, infrastructure, and customer-facing collaboration. You'll work like an engineer for much of the role, while also partnering with Solutions Architects, Account Executives, Customer Success, and others to make sure what we build is practical, usable, and aligned to how the field sells.
What you'll do- Build and maintain tools, applications, and workflows that support demos, workshops, trials, and internal test environments.
- Expand the Demo Architect Portal to improve automation, self-service, and scalability for field teams and partners.
- Provision and support infrastructure that enables hands-on customer experiences across GitLab.com, demo instances, and internal environments.
- Collaborate with Solutions Architects, Account Executives, Customer Success, Marketing, Revenue Operations, UX, and Engineering to understand needs and deliver practical technical solutions.
- Learn and document go-to-market workflows (e.g., how teams run demos/workshops/trials) and automate the steps that waste time.
- Create technical workshop assets and enablement content that support pre-sales and technical selling for individual contributors.
- Advise on sales opportunities when specialized technical demo support or custom solutions are needed.
- Improve the presenter experience by reducing manual setup work and making demo workflows easier to use and repeat.
- Support internal teams that rely on demo or test infrastructure, helping keep those environments available and useful.
- Troubleshoot urgent demo/workshop environment issues under pressure and communicate status clearly to stakeholders.
- Experience building software, systems, or internal tools that support technical users or business teams.
- Ability to deliver production-grade software and automation with attention to reliability, maintainability, and documentation.
- Ability to work across application development and infrastructure, with comfort navigating provisioning, automation, and service workflows.
- Familiarity with monitoring/observability tools to shorten investigation time when something breaks.
- Comfort communicating and collaborating with technical and non-technical stakeholders across Sales, Solutions Architecture, Customer Success, Marketing, UX, and Engineering.
- Understanding of how to design and iterate on solutions for usability and repeatability, not just technical correctness, with awareness that the end user may be a seller or Solutions Architect.
- Ability to operate independently in a remote, asynchronous environment, with willingness to travel periodically for team offsites and occasional in-person planning/whiteboarding sessions.
- Exposure to technical demos, workshops, trials, or enablement assets, and/or interest in learning the pre-sales context; transferable experience from software engineering, site reliability engineering, systems engineering, solutions architecture, or similar technical paths.
On the Demo Architect team at GitLab, we support the field’s demo, workshop, and trial experiences by maintaining shared tooling and the infrastructure behind internal demo and test instances used across GitLab. We’re a small, globally distributed group that collaborates asynchronously across regions and adapts quickly to changing needs, with a current focus on scaling automation, enabling more self-service, extending support to partners, and maintaining reliable internal infrastructure.
