About the role

SoFi is launching a weekly crypto newsletter for everyday investors interested in crypto ownership, long-term investing, and the future of finance. We are seeking a Deputy Editor to lead this editorial franchise and serve as a primary crypto editorial voice for SoFi — overseeing the newsletter's voice, curation, aesthetic, and execution, while also developing a broader portfolio of crypto education content across formats.

This is an opportunity to build a unique editorial franchise at the first and only nationally chartered bank where consumers can bank, borrow, invest, and buy, sell, and hold crypto.

This role is ideal for a journalist with deep crypto subject matter expertise — someone who can report authoritatively on markets, regulation, and infrastructure — and the editorial instincts to translate that expertise into a must-read weekly. Equally important is a fluency with AI-assisted tools: you'll design and operate workflows that use AI to accelerate research, sourcing, and production, while ensuring every word published is human-reported, human-written, and human-edited. This is not an AI-generated newsletter. It's a human one, built by someone who knows how to use every tool available.

SoFi’s mission is to help people get their money right. The Educational Content team’s role is to show them how through content that’s credible, relatable, and empowering. We believe financial literacy unlocks ambition, and we build resources that help members feel confident about both their money and the products they use to manage it.

This is a full-time contract position.

What you’ll do

Lead SoFi's crypto newsletter (~75% of your time)

  • Provide an authoritative, independent editorial voice that keeps readers reading
  • Report on the most important stories shaping crypto markets and infrastructure
  • Translate crypto concepts and developments into accessible, investor-focused insights
  • Ensure all content reflects rigorous editorial judgment and your own original analysis
  • Cultivate interviews, market insights, and op-eds from contributing partners
  • Maintain a tone that is educational, practical, and aligned with SoFi's mission to help members get their money right

Develop crypto education content across formats (~25% of your time)

  • Extend your crypto editorial expertise into other SoFi content formats, including explainers, guides, multimedia assets, and special editorial projects
  • Collaborate with internal teams to identify content gaps and develop resources that help SoFi members understand crypto and make confident investing decisions
  • Bring the same editorial standards and subject matter depth to non-newsletter formats that you apply to the weekly

Bring authoritative crypto expertise

  • Bring genuine reporting instincts to the beat — not just aggregation, but original analysis and synthesis
  • Maintain a robust source network across crypto markets, policy, and institutional finance
  • Know what you don't know and build editorial processes for fact-checking

Build AI-enabled editorial workflows

  • Design and operate editorial workflows that use AI to accelerate research, idea generation, and production — with every output reviewed, rewritten, and owned by you. All content is 100% human-written and edited; AI is a production tool, not a co-author.
  • Leverage data and your own creativity to drive experiments with new formats and features to improve newsletter quality and performance
What you’ll need

Deep crypto subject matter expertise

  • Expertise in crypto markets, blockchain infrastructure, and digital asset investing
  • Knowledge of regulation, stablecoins, custody, DeFi, and institutional adoption

Newsletter leadership experience

  • Proven experience writing and/or editing successful newsletters
  • Ability to package complex topics into concise, engaging editorial formats
  • Strong instincts for audience engagement and editorial prioritization

Broad editorial range

  • Comfort working across content formats beyond the newsletter (including explainers, Q&As, scripts, guides, etc.)
  • Ability to adapt voice and depth to different editorial contexts while maintaining a consistent POV
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams on editorial projects

AI-native editorial mindset

  • Commitment to maintaining the highest editorial standards
  • Experience using AI tools to support research, production, and editorial workflows
  • Comfort building (and experimenting) with AI-assisted production and processes
  • Understanding that AI accelerates your work but doesn’t replace your voice, judgment, or byline.

Strong editorial judgment

  • Exceptional writing and editing skills
  • Ability to translate complex financial topics into clear, accessible language
  • Strong sense of newsworthiness and narrative framing
