Job Description

Within Memorial Sloan Kettering’s Digital Informatics and Technology Solutions (DigITs) department, the User Experience Design Team (UXD) is excited to recruit a passionate, pragmatic Designer to advance our digital transformation and help define the creative direction, development, and evolution of MSK to improve the patient experience.

We are currently looking for a UX/UI Product Designer to work on the Heath Consumer Platform, which encompasses our patient-facing applications such as the MyMSK patient portal and the MyMSK mobile app. As a UX/UI Product Designer at MSK, you will collaborate with business owners, architects, and engineering to help develop and improve on our patient experience by immersing in complex and intricate medical requirements and transform them into simple and elegant user flows.

On a typical day, you will…

  • Apply a broad range of techniques, including sketching, prototyping, interaction modeling, journey mapping, and user testing to explore, convey, and validate opportunities and solutions
  • Enhance and expand on existing designs with complex backend logic
  • Conduct discovery activities with stakeholders, analysts, and users to arrive at design solutions on transactional patient experiences
  • Actively contribute to and consume MSK’s newly formed Design System
  • Participate in user testing planning, testing, and analysis
  • Create final, detailed, developer-ready layouts for hand-off
  • Iteratively work and present your designs to stakeholders with an ability to clearly articulate design trade-off considerations and reasoning
  • Communicate the value of design to diverse audiences, pulling partners into the design process when needed to critically frame and scope design problems
  • Systematically convert design principles into an evolved visual language, and a refined suite of repeatable components, which will enable the wider organization to learn fast and adopt easily
  • Apply a broad range of techniques, including sketching, prototyping, interaction modeling, journey mapping, and user testing to explore, convey, and validate opportunities and solutions
  • Iteratively work and present your designs to stakeholders with an ability to clearly articulate design trade-off considerations and reasoning

You are…

  • A human-centered graphic designer that cares about craft while relentlessly raising the design bar.
  • An inspiring systems thinker, with strong attention to visual detail, and the ability to see how a design will scale across devices, platforms, and channels
  • A strong collaborator and communicator who is not afraid to get their hands dirty, and who helps to support a growing team by demonstrating best practices and building a culture of cooperation
  • Confident in driving work independently while still excited to contribute and be a part of a design team
  • A confident quick learner who gets excited about diving into new subject matters
  • A master of design fundamentals across digital platforms, and a deep understanding of the importance of applying qualitative and quantitative techniques to inform and validate concepts
  • Experienced working in a scaled agile/scrum design and development process, and able to connect with teams from both creative and technical backgrounds
  • Have an understanding of foundational front end design
  • Have a learning mindset with the desire to move fast and learn faster.

You have…

  • 5-7 years of experience building and implementing user interfaces for digital products that users love
  • Online portfolio of past work that includes examples of responsive design
  • Expertise in standard product design software such as Figma, Sketch, InVision or equivalent is required
  • Put users first at the center of your design methodology and advocate for design thinking
  • Deep understanding of the importance of applying qualitative and quantitative methodologies to inform and validate decisions
  • Acute understanding that everything counts, including operational rigor, relationship management, workflow excellence, and attention to detail
  • Ability to cultivate an environment of teamwork and cooperation
  • Experience collaborating closely with teams that come from both creative, business and technical backgrounds
  • Experience working in a scaled agile/scrum process

Bonus points for…

  • Working with complex, large-scale systems
  • Experience working in health tech
