As a Product Designer, you will be responsible for the development of user-centered design for all email, letter, and web interactions. You’ll work closely with our product and engineering teams from product conception to implementation. The ideal candidate will be comfortable juggling multiple priorities and able to balance the need to move quickly with paying attention to details.

We are growing rapidly: our team of engineers hail from companies like Fitbit, Uber, and Stripe, we are doubling headcount of the company this year, and have financial institution clients.

At Debtsy, you'll be an early member of a fast-growing company. You'll have a large degree of ownership and an outsized impact on our path and ultimate success.  We foster a culture of collaboration and open feedback, thoughtful problem solving, and continual learning and growth.

What you'll do:

  • Run user interviews, ethnographic studies, and perform other research to understand how we can optimize user interactions
  • Conceptualize new features with engineers and product managers
  • Create user-centered prototypes and pixel-perfect interface designs by considering data, customer feedback, user research and technical constraints/opportunities
  • Be the primary decision maker for design choices throughout the application
  • Help implement brand identity and guideline updates
  • Act as an advocate for design throughout the organization

You may be a fit if you:

  • Have a track record of successfully creating user experiences that span across multiple mediums
  • Have top-tier testing and information architecture skills
  • Are able to work with exceptional design velocity when exploring variations of product concepts
  • Have extensive experience working with modern design tools (Sketch, Figma, Invision, etc.)
  • Have solid understanding how to communicate and collaborate with product managers and engineers. Concretely this means having a solid understanding of what is possible in modern web development and how this informs design / interaction decisions how to hand off designs for implementation
  • Are extremely detail oriented

An Insider's view of January

How would you describe the company’s work-life balance?

January’s culture prioritizes a healthy work-life balance allowing me to remain productive as a new mother. With a leadership team that leads by example and team members that mutually respect each other’s personal lives, I feel comfortable taking time off as needed to prioritize my mental and physical well-being or personal obligations.

Danielle

Software Engineer II

What projects are you most excited about?

One project I'm working on that is super exciting is implementing a machine learning model to improve debt payoff outcomes. Not only is this a technically interesting and challenging project, but it's likely to impact revenue. We're hoping that through insights gained, we can apply similar strategies to other predictive models in the future.

How does the company support your career growth?

We pride ourselves on offering ongoing feedback to support career development and growth opportunities. We have clearly defined career tracks with competencies that give our teams clear goals to work towards. We go beyond just standard performance reviews by operating with a performance culture that allows our teams to consistently hit their goals.

Vanessa

Vice President of People

How do your team's ideas influence the company's direction?

The team’s ideas have shaped the core of our business’s culture, vision, strategy, and more. Frequent feedback – a cultural value – underpins how we operate. Structured and unstructured feedback mechanisms, including one-on-ones, bi-monthly reflections, agility-improving surveys, and post-mortem conversations facilitate regular idea sharing.

Jake

CEO

What's something quirky about your company?

A bunch of folks on the team are into creative activities outside of work (e.g. painting, archery, candle making, painting rocks, etc.). We have a painting and photos the team made hanging up in the office!
