Staff/Principal Designer, Consumer

We’re excited to welcome a Staff/Principal Designer to lead the charge on creating a seamless and engaging user experience for our consumer product.

As a Staff/Principal Designer, you will define how Skillshare users can find the best learning content that our subscription service has to offer. Alongside our company’s key strategies, you will lead and deliver a vision for Skillshare’s content discovery experiences. You’ll be a key contributor to the voice of product design at Skillshare, championing the user to develop a holistic experience that works on all platforms, connecting key touch points on the web and on our mobile apps. You’ll be responsible for communicating priorities to our cross-functional teams, defining goals and ensuring alignment to help establish a shared vision across the company. 

You will also own the user experience of our logged in member experience, including the Home page and Browse products. You will research, define, and architect key user journeys to provide best-in-class journeys that lead users into our product experience. This area is poised to grow significantly over the next year and you’ll help lead the charge. You need to be comfortable building and pushing for a product vision within a consumer environment. We’ll look to your expertise in building customer-centric products, technical know-how, and your ability to work seamlessly with teams across the company, champion our platform’s learners and drive real engagement impact as we scale.

What you'll do:

  • Work closely with brand, marketing, content, engineering, data, product, and design leaders to develop customer-centric content + product strategy experiences and related roadmaps.
  • Be the voice of the user. You’ll understand student learning needs and evangelize UX research findings across the organization.
  • Develop and maintain continual understanding of competitive online learning platforms in the market and identify where Skillshare can innovate & pull ahead.
  • Run countless experiments that help push our product forward.
  • Rapidly produce various concepts and prototypes; knowing when to apply pixel-perfect detail vs. when to make low-fi sketches and prototypes.
  • Lead the progress of Skillshare’s Design System.
  • Mentor a well-rounded team across strengths, disciplines, and seniority.
  • Build strong partnerships and cross-team workflows with product, engineering, data, brand, marketing, and community teams to ensure we’re delivering an engaging, user-focused product.
  • Effectively communicate the vision of Discovery and related roadmap to senior leadership
  • Work with Brand and Content on in-product promotions of top quality classes.
  • Cultivate a culture of innovation that welcomes new ideas. You’ll work closely with product stakeholders to improve product releases and push the boundaries of design.

  • You thrive in a high-energy, fast-paced environment where tactical and strategic initiatives are driven in parallel

Data plays a huge part in learning about our members, determining the most popular classes, and fostering creative community. I was a student within the community long before helping build it.
