Role Overview
The core of the collection is centered around cut and sew knits and sweaters and expanding into additional categories including wovens, denim, kids and accessories.
This is an opportunity to work for a founder led young fun and dynamic brand! Working directly with the founders, the Designer will drive apparel product creation from concept through bulk working with the production teams and overseas offices. This position partners production, overseas offices and suppliers to translate ideas into commercially successful, beautifully executed garments that meet brand standards for quality, fit, and functionality.
This is a highly hands-on role that spans the full lifecycle, including trend, product development, sketching, fabric and trim sourcing, sample execution, fittings, and seasonal line development, with a strong focus on knits while supporting category expansion.
Category Expansion & Growth Opportunity
This role is designed to grow alongside the brand, an opportunity for a designer who enjoys building product from the ground up, taking ownership, and playing an integral role in a growing, founder-led business.
- Short Term: Own and refine the core knit and sweater assortment, establishing consistent fit, fabrication, and quality standards.
- Mid Term: Support the introduction of denim and woven categories, collaborating with founders and external partners to develop new silhouettes, fabrics, and washes.
- Long Term: Become a key product leader across categories, helping shape future assortment strategy, supplier partnerships, and category expansion as the brand scales.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with founders on seasonal product concepts, silhouettes, and color stories aligned with the brand vision and customer lifestyle.
- Research emerging trends in fabrics, yarns, textures, washes, and finishes, translating them into wearable, commercially viable products.
- Lead design development for knit and sweater categories, and other emerging categories. Design products with strong attention to shape, proportion, fit, and construction, ensuring consistency across categories. Create sketches, construction details, CADs, spec sheets, and Bills of Materials (BOMs) for overseas factories and mills.
- Create seasonal presentation boards, mood boards, palettes, CADs, and line plans that clearly communicate design direction across categories.
- Partner with overseas offices, to review samples, refine fit and construction, and update specs and BOMs as needed.
- Provide direction and approvals on fabric, color, print pattern while working with mills and vendors to develop custom fabrics, stitches, washes, and finishes when needed.
- Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design or related field
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in apparel product design and development, with strong experience in knits and sweaters
- Working knowledge of denim and woven construction; experience developing these categories a plus
- Strong understanding of fabrication, fit, construction, and factory execution across multiple categories
- Ability to work quickly and efficiently in a fast-paced, evolving environment
- Ability to render accurate, flat sketches by hand and in Adobe Illustrator
- Must have PLM experience, Centric is a plus
This a hybrid role, with 4 days in our NYC office
PAY RATE: $100,000/yr-$125,000/yr
