The Center for Family Representation Inc. (CFR) is an award-winning, innovative law and policy organization that serves primarily Black and Brown families and youth in Queens, Manhattan, the Bronx, and Staten Island with an interdisciplinary legal defense model that serves more than 2,400 clients every year. CFR was originally founded in 2002 to dramatically change the trajectory of indigent parents being prosecuted by the City’s Administration for Children’s Services (ACS). Our goal is to defend and protect our clients’ rights, reduce the harm of family separation, and prevent or minimize the time any child spends in the foster system.
About the Role
The Center for Family Representation (CFR) is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated intern to support our Development team with a variety of fundraising projects. This is an internship for college credit, no stipend will be provided. The successful candidate will have an excellent learning opportunity to assist our 3 person Development department by supporting key strategic planning for our largest annual fundraiser, stewarding individual and corporate donors, and maintaining strong data hygiene in our CRM. Strong teamwork, organizational skills, and a willingness to learn are essential for success in this role. This role reports to the Development Manager and is hybrid or, if needed, remote.
Responsibilities
Special Event Planning - CFR Benefit
Support strategic planning and logistics for CFR’s Annual Benefit, which is taking on a new structure this year, including vendor research and solicitation strategies for prospective attendees
Donor Solicitation and Stewardship
Create first drafts of email solicitations to CFR’s donor base
Help ensure donor acknowledgement letters are generated and sent to donors in a timely manner
Grant Writing
Under the supervision of the Development Director, identify and apply to grant opportunities for low-dollar or in-kind support.
CRM Management
Assist the Development Manager in data hygiene projects in our CRM GiftWorks, ensuring consistent coding and record accuracy
Community Engagement
If possible, attend in-person tabling sessions, know-your-rights trainings, and other CFR events.
Qualifications
Qualifications
CFR will consider undergraduate and graduate students with a demonstrated interest in our work. All applicants must be affiliated with an accredited program for an academic credit internship and/or have a paid fellowship. Ideally the role is hybrid but, if needed, can be remote.
Minimum number of hours is dependent upon your credit requirements with your accredited program requirements, but candidates can expect a minimum of 8-10 hours a week.
