About Us:

The wholesale distribution industry is ready for a revolution, and Proton is leading the charge. The world relies on distributors to sell nearly every physical product, but despite its massive contribution to the global economy, this industry has been left behind in terms of technology. Proton is changing that. With AI-powered sales software, we’re breaking through the complexity of selling millions of products and making it easier for distributors to anticipate customer needs. Our mission is to bring the distribution industry into the modern age and the results speak for themselves. Distributors using Proton see 10x ROI, faster new hire ramp-up, and happier sales teams.

In 2022, we raised a $20M Series A backed by Felicis Ventures (investors in Twitch, Shopify, Opendoor, and many others) and Battery Ventures. This year, we’re laser-focused on driving customer growth. If you’re excited about the opportunity to wear multiple hats, and continuously learn and experiment, now’s the time to join the Proton team.

The Role:

Proton is looking for a DevOps Engineer to join our fast-growing SaaS team! This role offers a unique opportunity to be a pivotal part of our startup's growth, providing you with real authority and responsibility within a small team of independent engineers. Unlike larger corporations, you'll directly lead projects, navigate scaling challenges, and balance immediate needs with long-term gains, making a meaningful impact on our company's trajectory

Reporting directly to our Infrastructure Manager, the DevOps Engineer will be responsible for designing, implementing, and managing complex infrastructure and web application environments. The ideal candidate should have a working understanding of Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform, Elasticsearch, Python, and Redis, as well as a proven track record of working with cloud platforms such as AWS or Google Cloud.

The target salary range for this role is $60,000 - $90,000.  Final offers will be based on your skills and previous experience. Proton collaborates with Oyster HR to hire international employees as full time (long term) contractors within our company.

This role will be fully remote. For collaboration purposes, all hires based in Europe or India are expected to be available for meetings from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM EST (Eastern Standard Time). Candidates located in Latin America are expected to work standard EST business hours on a daily basis.

What you’ll do:
  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Design, develop, and maintain infrastructure automation using tools like Terraform to provision and manage cloud resources efficiently.
  • Container Orchestration: Deploy, manage, and scale containerized applications using Kubernetes, ensuring high availability, fault tolerance, and optimal performance.
  • Application Deployment and Monitoring: Implement CI/CD pipelines for seamless application deployment and updates. Set up comprehensive monitoring and alerting solutions to ensure the health and performance of applications.
  • Docker Expertise: Build and maintain Docker images, optimize container runtime environments, and manage container lifecycles
  • Database Management: Administer and optimize databases like Elasticsearch and Redis, ensuring data integrity, availability, and performance
  • Automation and Scripting: Develop scripts and automation tools using Python or other relevant languages to streamline operational tasks and improve efficiency.
  • Cloud Platform Management: Leverage AWS or Google Cloud to design, configure, and maintain cloud resources, including compute instances, storage, networking, and security components.
  • Security and Compliance: Implement security best practices, including network security, access controls, and encryption mechanisms, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including developers, QA engineers, and system administrators, to optimize application performance and infrastructure reliability.
  • Troubleshooting and Support: Investigate and resolve incidents, outages, and performance issues across the entire technology stack, maintaining system availability and uptime.
  • Documentation: Create and maintain clear and comprehensive documentation for infrastructure, processes, and procedures.
You'll be a great fit for this role if:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 3 or more years of professional experience in DevOps or related roles
  • Expertise in Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform, Elasticsearch, Python, and Redis
  • Hands-on experience with AWS or Google Cloud, including services like EC2, S3, VPC, IAM, GKE, GCS, etc
  • Strong scripting and automation skills using Python or similar languages
  • Familiarity with continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines and tools
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues
  • Solid understanding of networking concepts and security best practices
  • Excellent teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills
Benefits:
  • Competitive Salaries + Company Stock Options - we want to pay you well (and equitably!) and make you feel like an owner.
  • Flexible Schedule - we think high levels of autonomy, responsibility, and working asynchronously foster an amazing workplace.
  • Unlimited PTO + 10 Company Paid Holidays - we even have tools implemented to detect burnout to make sure folks recharge regularly.
  • $450 Quarterly Remote Working Stipend -  to iterate and upgrade your WFH setup, cover cell phone/internet bills or even toward your commute.
  • 12 Weeks Fully Paid Parental Leave - that goes for primary and secondary caregivers; even if you’re adopting or fostering!
  • Annual Company Paid Off-sites - time for us to be together, brainstorm, and make magic happen.
