WETM 18 News is looking for a Digital Producer to join our digital news team. We seek a talented multi-tasker who can effectively create content for multiple digital platforms, including our market-leading website and our app for smart-tv’s, WETM+. The Digital Producer should be a skilled writer who can craft headlines and content that provide value to the audience and drive user engagement. The producer will use analytics data to make decisions about audience interest helping with website organization. The producer is the primary advocate for growing and directing off-platform participation among the digital editorial group. This person must be highly motivated with an ability to focus and re-focus on a constantly changing target.

Position Responsibilities

  • Develops and leads winning strategy for station content
  • Expert understanding of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and TikTok
  • Reviews copy and will correct errors in content, grammar, and punctuation, following prescribed editorial style and formatting guidelines
  • Utilize social media and station website to build and reinforce brand recognition
  • Research and analyze background information related to news stories in order to be able to provide complete and accurate information
  • Gather information about events through research, interviews, experience or attendance at political, news, sports, artistic, social or other functions
  • Pitches local and trending stories during morning meetings
  • Opportunity to shoot and edit content for digital platforms
  • Ensures that all content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality
  • Writes stories for the web and other digital platforms
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Finds new ways to use social media and station website to engage with viewers
  • In our quest to provide digital-first local journalism, we have developed a streaming app. The Digital Content Producer will also be responsible for helping create, upload and schedule content for streaming, as well as running breaking news update livestreams from our OBS desk in the Digital News Studio

Requirements & Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism; news website experience required; live, working web samples preferred
  • Proficiency in AP Style, Adobe Photoshop. Adobe Express, Canva and other graphical software preferred
  • Adobe Analytics and Google Trends experience a plus
  • Familiarity with OBS preferred
  • Maintain positive work environment through active team participation and cooperation with co-workers in all departments
  • Responds positively to feedback

Typical day:

This individual will need to maintain awareness of external social media conversations and manage our own posts across all accounts throughout the day while also scheduling holdable content for off hours. Regular metric analysis and reporting will result in constant updates to strategy that need to be communicated, focusing on updated messaging to different groups weekly. This individual will also play a central role in the execution of our evolving newsletter strategy.

  • Consistently seek to grow audience to your bylined stories
  • Grow the social media base of the station and regularly promote links to stories

Compensation - $16.00 – $17.00/hour, commensurate with experience.
