PIX11 News is looking for a creative, passionate, talented and hard-working digital intern to assist with content on PIX11.com and its social media platforms. The internship program will start in June and finish in August 2022.

The ideal candidate will have a passion for digital storytelling, local news, TV, social media and other tools to grow PIX11’s digital audience. This role will include weekday shifts. 

Internships are available for qualified students studying broadcast journalism, video production, and other communication degrees.

Responsibilities :

  • Being able to work in a fast-paced news environment as a savvy multitasker juggling multiple digital pieces of content per day
  • Being proactive in content discovery, reading up on local NY and NJ news and having a pulse on stories that are important to the PIX11 "New York's Very Own" audience
  • Using social media regularly, having multiple news apps, and being proficient in understanding the latest digital trends
  • A comfortable understanding of AP style 
  • Creating and posting engaging content on social media accounts for breaking news and story promotion (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok). Using language that drives traffic while not coming off as “clickbait” is key.
  • Publishing video segments from TV newscasts to digital platforms
  • Assisting with digital video production and regular interaction with PIX11 TV anchors and reporters 
  • Will be well supervised and participate in a meaningful learning experience
  • Upon completion of the internship, the student will be evaluated through a written review by the internship supervisor

Requirements & Skills:

  • Can legally work in the US without any sponsorship
  • Be of advanced skill level due to complexity of projects
  • A collaborative worker with a willingness to learn
  • Previous internship experience a plus
  • Love for New York City, storytelling, and local news
  • Ability to work professionally with station staff to put out the best possible digital creative
  • Comfortable with platforms like Zoom, Slack, Outlook, Google Suite
  • Passion for the news, digital, TV, and a commitment to fairness and accuracy
  • Adobe Photoshop or Premiere experience is a huge plus
  • Applicants should have the ability to be both: an independent self starter and work with others

Hourly rate: $16.50
