Job Description
NBCUniversal is seeking a Director of On-Air Operations to join a driven and highly motivated team located in Stamford, Connecticut within NBCUniversal's Technical Operations.
The Director of On-Air & Digital Operations will be responsible for providing leadership for a team of Managers, Operation Managers, Operations Supervisors, and Master Control Operators responsible for executing, promoting, and maintaining the on-air reliability for Bravo, 5 Regional Sports Networks, NBC Universo, FAST channels, and Single Live Events on Peacock. This position will be responsible for leadership of the Disaster Recovery operation for NBCUniversal's NBC and Telemundo Broadcast Networks, including origination and playout. The role will also oversee our Affiliate and Partner onboarding and support.
Responsibilities:
  • Ensure 99.999% On-Air reliability for all Cable properties and maintain high availability/operational readiness of NBC Broadcast Disaster Recovery channels.
  • Lead and support On-Air managers and operations teams to execute all on-air technology, systems, and operational workflows.
  • Partner with NBCU's Sales operation leadership to ensure execution of all commercial spots and reconciliation for revenue recognition.
  • Liaise with the leadership of the NBCU Regional VPs and Directors of Technology to integrate new projects and RSN innovation.
  • Oversee all project management of new projects while partnering and aligning with Distribution Engineering.
  • Partner with NBCU Enterprise Product team to develop a long-range plan for systems, applications, and products supporting On-Air distribution.
  • Manage the operating budget across the Cable On-Air & Digital Ops teams.
  • Own and manage strong working relationships with the MVPD, dMVPD, Telemundo and NBC affiliate communities
  • Oversee the end-to-end affiliate on-and off-boarding processes, including activations, deactivations, IRD management and scaling of channels as the business evolves
  • Own and manage end-to-end support of the MVPD, dMVPD, Telemundo and NBC affiliate partner base including IRD management, troubleshooting and associated reporting
  • Maintain 3rd party contracts and relationships supporting the distribution to all MVPDs and Partners.
  • Manage all On-Air escalation and troubleshooting engagements.
  • Adopt and implement AI solutions to drive reliability and productivity across the operations.
  • Lead and participate in key initiatives supporting new technology, strategic planning, and growth.

Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
  • BA/BS in a related field.
  • Proven experience managing large teams in a 24/7 technical operations environment.
  • 5+ years' experience people management experience; preferably managing People Leaders.
  • Troubleshooting and processing skills and exhibiting an ability to effectively lead, prioritize, and adapt to changing scenarios.
  • Extensive project management experience. The ideal candidate has experience managing scope, schedule, and resources for projects and can effectively lead project teams.
  • A track record of meeting or exceeding performance expectations.
  • Experience motivating and influencing teams to accomplish a common goal.
  • Proven track record for driving organizational transformation.
  • A proven leader known to challenge the status quo, introduce new and better ways of delivering results, and capable of leading through change.
  • Thorough understanding of television production, broadcast operations, and news/sports/entertainment technical production requirements.
  • Experience managing people within a 24/7 operation.

Desired Characteristics:
  • Previous experience in a master control environment and/or leading live events preferred.
  • Knowledge of Cable and Television Broadcast Distribution.
  • Acute attention to detail.
  • Good interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work well in groups or teams.
