JOB SUMMARY:

The Director will develop and implement CDI strategies, policies, and workflows to optimize documentation processes and improve clinical outcomes and data integrity. Key responsibilities include growing the business and defining the market strategy as well as overseeing a team of CDI professionals and ensuring high-quality service delivery supporting multiple clients and systems. The Director plays a critical role in supporting client relationships, performance reporting, and the growth of CDI service lines.

Essential Functions:

Specific tasks, responsibilities or competencies may be documented in the incumbent’s performance objectives as outlined by the incumbent’s immediate supervisor or manager.  Major responsibilities include, but are not limited:

  • Provide support and management of CDI Services including resource allocation, audits and readiness assessments for new program startups and existing program process improvement efforts.
  • Participates in Sales Discovery calls with potential clients.
  • Monitors utilization and margin for all CDI Team Members.
  • Analyze findings and identify potential root causes of produced errors and identify areas of improvement.
  • Prepare summary reports of findings to clients, supplying specific references supporting findings contained within the provided audit report.
  • Participate in interaction and education with Physicians, HIM Directors, Coding Managers and other client liaisons, as appropriate, regarding documentation, policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Serve as Engagement Lead or Primary Project Leader for new or existing program through all phases of engagement including data collection and analytics, interview of key client Team Members, development of gap analysis, recommendation for and support of development and implementation of work plans. Creation of monitoring dashboards, ongoing monitoring of progress to goal, provision of final deliverable to clients as outlined in the project scope.
  • Prepare deliverables for the client as required.
  • Manage budget and profitability for the service line.
  • Team Management:
  • Team Assignments, creation and communication of such assignments to Team Members
  • Team Member Forecasting
  • Team education and career development
  • Team performance improvement plans as required
  • Project tracking and reporting both to CorroHealth Leadership

and clients.

  • Maintenance of professional credentials and knowledge of coding, reimbursement and compliance issues through.
  • Participation in Team Member recruiting. (i.e. interviewing, testing, candidate selection)
  • Report work time and work products in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Communicate with colleagues in an open and respectful manner that promotes teamwork and knowledge sharing.
  • Interact with clients in a professional manner that, at all times, exhibits excellent relationship, work performance and communication skill so as to support the company and its business interests.
  • Provide schedule of planned work activities, events, and sites and any changes to same to management and appropriate Team Members.
  • In all situations, protect the privacy and confidentiality of patient health and client information and follow the standards of Ethical Coding as set forth by AHIMA.
  • Support the Management Team and the Communications/Digital Manager to develop, implement, and oversee CDI’s transition-related communications and public relations efforts.
  • Ensure regular and productive Management Team, and all hands team meetings
  • Provide support for conflict resolution, vendor, client, Team Member and collaborator situations.
  • Work with Team Members to analyze, uncover and identify needed areas of organizational improvement and change; determining which of these can be addressed and which should be addressed in a future strategic plan with leadership.
  • Oversee, monitor alignment with, and revise CDI’s organizational budget, as needed.
  • Periodic travel as required.
  • All other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

  • Requires a minimum of five (5) years of experience as a Clinical Documentation Integrity Specialist.
  • Requires leadership and client management experience.
  • Requires a Bachelor’s (preferably BSN) degree in a relevant field; or an Associate of Science Nursing (ASN) degree and two (2) years of relevant clinical work experience in an acute care inpatient setting can substitute for a required degree.
  • Requires Certified Documentation Improvement Practitioner (CDIP) or Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist (CCDS) certification within one (1) year along with the maintaining of required Continuing Education Units (CEUs) thereafter.
  • Strong analytical skills and familiarization with HIM electronic tools such as encoders, groupers, CDI software and EMR platforms.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft programs such as Excel, Outlook, and Teams.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally both verbally and written.
  • May be required to perform other duties as assigned by Leadership.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Note: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions as described. Regular eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity is required to operate office equipment. The ability to perform work at a computer terminal for 6-8 hours a day and function in an environment with constant interruptions is required. At times, Team Members are subject to sitting for prolonged periods. Infrequently, Team Member must be able to lift and move material weighing up to 20 lbs. Team Member may experience elevated levels of stress during periods of increased activity and with work entailing multiple deadlines.
