Role OverviewThe Director, Compliance is responsible for designing, implementing, and enforcing Compass Surgical Partners’ enterprise compliance program across all managed ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs), joint ventures, and corporate functions.
This is a hands-on, operational leadership role—not a purely advisory position. The Director, Compliance builds and owns a scalable compliance infrastructure that reduces regulatory risk, supports growth, withstands diligence, and protects enterprise value for physician, health system, and private equity stakeholders. Reporting into the CLO/CAO ensures compliance is embedded as a core governance and risk-management function, tightly aligned with legal oversight, investigations, transactions, and board accountability.
What You’ll DoBuild and Own the Enterprise Compliance Program
Design, implement, and maintain Compass’s enterprise compliance program in alignment with OIG guidance and healthcare best practices
Own compliance policies, standards, and procedures across ASC operations, MSO activities, joint ventures, and managed entities
Ensure the compliance program is practical, enforceable, auditable, and scalable
Oversee Regulatory Compliance (ASC-Focused)
Oversee compliance with applicable federal and state healthcare regulations, including fraud and abuse laws (AKS, Stark considerations as applicable to ASCs), HIPAA/HITECH, CMS Conditions for Coverage, and state licensure and accreditation requirements
Partner closely with Legal to interpret regulatory requirements and translate them into clear operational controls
Lead Risk Assessments, Audits, and Monitoring
Conduct periodic enterprise-wide and ASC-level compliance risk assessments
Design and execute monitoring activities, internal audits, and corrective action plans
Track findings through remediation and escalate systemic risks to leadership as needed
Manage Investigations and Issue Resolution
Own the compliance hotline and reporting mechanisms, including intake, triage, and investigation of concerns
Conduct or oversee investigations in partnership with Legal and People Operations
Ensure investigations are timely, well-documented, and defensible
Recommend corrective actions and disciplinary measures where appropriate
Develop Policies, Training, and Education
Maintain the Code of Conduct and core enterprise and ASC-specific compliance policies
Design and deploy compliance training programs, including new hire onboarding, annual training, and role-based education for administrators and leaders
Track training completion, effectiveness, and engagement
Support Growth, Integrations, and Transactions
Support compliance diligence and integration for acquisitions, de novo ASCs, and joint ventures
Ensure newly acquired entities are rapidly aligned to Compass compliance standards, training, and reporting mechanisms
Partner with Legal and Corporate Development to identify and mitigate compliance risks early in the transaction lifecycle
Serve as a Trusted, Independent Compliance Resource
Coordinate compliance responses to government audits and inquiries in partnership with Legal
Serve as a resource to ASC leadership while maintaining independence from Operations
Reinforce a strong culture of compliance, accountability, and non-retaliation across the organization
8–12+ years of healthcare compliance experience, ideally within ambulatory surgery centers, physician services, or multi-state healthcare organizations
Strong working knowledge of federal and state healthcare regulatory frameworks applicable to ASCs
Experience building, operating, and scaling enterprise compliance programs
Demonstrated experience leading investigations, audits, and remediation efforts
Ability to operate effectively in a PE-backed, high-growth environment
Strong judgment, executive presence, and ability to balance approachability with authority
Proven ability to partner cross-functionally while maintaining independence and integrity
