As a key member of the Privacy Office in Regeneron’s Law Department, this role will enable our rapidly growing and globally expanding business to develop and execute innovative data-driven strategies in accordance with data privacy, cybersecurity and AI laws. This role will serve as the Privacy Office's primary legal  support for our Digital & Technology function and other business areas as may be needed.  This role will report to Regeneron’s Chief Privacy Officer.

  • Work Location: Sleepy Hollow, NY, Cambridge, MA

  • Work model/flexibility: 4 days per week on site

Discover your role:

  • Shaping the legal framework for Regeneron's cyber risk strategy and counseling senior management on cyber-related legal obligations in the U.S. and globally.

  • Leading the Privacy Office's incident response function, including counseling stakeholders to prepare for and respond to complex cyber and privacy incidents, and directing the privacy professionals responsible for incident intake, tracking, and investigations.

  • Set strategy and direction for assessing potential privacy risks associated with innovative new initiatives and driving the development of appropriate controls, training and guidance to enable compliance with applicable regulations.

  • Engagement in support of Regeneron's evolving AI governance framework including participating in use case assessments and counseling to manage associated privacy risk.

  • Drive the development of privacy policies, procedures and guidance that enable consistent, scalable and globally aligned practices.  Collaborate with Law Department colleagues, Digital & Technology  and business functions in development of related AI, cybersecurity and data governance policies and standards.

  • Anticipating and evaluating developments in global data privacy together with related cybersecurity and AI laws (including related legislation and industry practices), and translating those insights into governance strategies and practical business guidance.

  • Determining approach to operationalizing compliance with regional and local laws; advising on the application and solutions for complying with biometric and other emerging data-related laws.

  • Representing the Privacy Office as a member of Regeneron's technology-related committees and working groups.

  • Partnering with Privacy Office colleagues to contribute to the implementation and advancement of the Regeneron Privacy Program.

  • Collaborating with our Government Affairs division on opportunities to influence legislation and regulatory policy

This role requires:

  • A JD and be licensed to practice law in New York State or eligible for licensure as a registered in-house counsel.

  • At least 15 years of legal experience at a law firm and/or in-house, with at least 10 years of experience of directly relevant experience.  Biotechnology, pharmaceutical or related life science experience strongly preferred.

  • Strong knowledge of local and global privacy, cybersecurity and AI laws and familiarity with associated risk management frameworks and standards (e.g., NIST).

  • Exceptional oral, written, and presentation communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate and translate complex legal analysis into practical guidance for a varied audience.
