The Games Player Experience team is focused on enabling our members to find and engage with exciting new Interactive and Game experiences on Netflix. The team has a broad scope from the gaming canvases on TV and Mobile, our new kids experience, the Netflix Games Controller, to our new on-device gaming platform. We are seeking a Director of  Engineering to bring together several teams of high-performing engineers to deliver best-in-class experiences for both players and game developers alike. In this position, you will play a critical role in shaping the future of games at Netflix.

Who You Are
  • A highly technical, hands-on engineering leader.

  • Experienced across a variety of technologies with a focus on Javascript, React, and Swift or Kotlin.

  • An opinionated product thinker with a deep understanding of the games industry, gaming controllers, and/or cloud gaming.

  • Great at looking at the big picture and rapidly getting to the root of the problem, whether it is technical, organizational, or interpersonal. 

  • Quick to adapt to new information and enjoy working in fast-paced and highly ambiguous environments.

  • An experienced leader who prioritizes creating an inclusive and psychologically safe work environment.

  • An engineering leader who can work with senior leadership to develop a long-term technical strategy and map business goals to appropriate design investments.

What you will do
  • Lead an organization of engineers and engineering managers to experiment and innovate in the main Netflix App and Netflix Game Controller.

  • Drive the overall engineering strategy for Player Experiences. 

  • Empower, challenge, and coach team members to grow their impact as individual technical leaders by providing them with context and continuous feedback.

  • Collaborate, build alignment, and develop strong relationships with cross-functional partners across business areas, leveraging exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

  • Foster an inclusive team culture that enables team members of all backgrounds to succeed and thrive.

  • Exemplify the Netflix culture by understanding, advocating for, and demonstrating its values.

Bonus Skills
  • Familiar with working in game engines, such as Unreal Engine, Unity3D, and Defold.

  • Experience working with cloud gaming platforms and WebRTC technologies.

  • Engage and contribute to open source communities.

  • Comfortable working across multiple gaming platforms, including web, mobile, and console. Bonus points if you have experience working with custom hardware experiences. 

  • Are self-driven and highly motivated to deliver critical-tiered solutions.

  • Strong understanding of lightweight production/team process

  • Advocate thoughtful collaboration, take pride in your work, and enjoy taking full ownership of projects from conception to production.
