About the Role:
Hinge is seeking a strategic, creative, and mission-driven Director of External Communications to shape our brand’s presence in the world. In this role spanning markets, you’ll lead Hinge’s external narrative across media relations, product/tech communications, brand campaigns, executive thought leadership and data-driven storytelling. This includes external storytelling about how Hinge’s app and technology work to help people connect — spanning product innovation, user experience, and the philosophy behind our platform.
This leader will deepen understanding of Hinge’s mission and impact, building trust, visibility, and excitement around how we’re helping to create a less lonely world. You’ll work cross-functionally to ensure our stories are cohesive, authentic, and aligned with Hinge’s values.
Responsibilities
- Lead our global external communications strategy across brand, product, and tech narratives.
- Shape storytelling that highlights Hinge’s innovation, purpose, and cultural relevance.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key media across tech, lifestyle, and business outlets.
- Partner with internal teams across Marketing, Product, Tech, Research, and external agency partners to surface and amplify meaningful stories.
- Support executive visibility tied to product innovation and announcements.
- Steer consistent messaging throughout external storytelling efforts — helping align messaging across markets.
- Guide the transformation of internal research and behavioral insights into compelling earned media stories and reports.
- Oversee press bench of trusted experts to tell culturally relevant stories about modern dating that spark real conversations.
- Manage consumer listening in support of key business needs.
- Analyze the impact of our communications and adjust the strategy based on the insights gained.
- Manage a small team and agency partners – fostering clarity, creativity, and accountability.
- Stay calm, clear, and grounded during fast-moving or high-pressure moments.
What We’re Looking For
- 8+ years experience in communications, ideally within mission-driven consumer tech.
- Must have proven experience managing a team with a collaborative, supportive approach.
- Strong editorial instincts and storytelling skills.
- Exceptional writing and media pitching skills.
- Strong collaboration skills across various business functions.
- Strategic thinker with sound business judgment and analytical insight.
- Calm, organized, and effective at managing multiple projects simultaneously.
