Business Unit Overview:
BlackRock’s Strategic Capital Solutions (SCS) group is responsible for developing, structuring, and executing strategic, multi-dimensional partnerships with insurers in which BlackRock can drive stakeholder value via its industry leading asset management capabilities as well as capital solutions including capital from BlackRock’s balance sheet capital and/or third party co-investor capital. Our solutions allow our insurance partners to successfully grow and benefit from access to BlackRock’s leading asset management, advisory and technology capabilities, and capital.
Today, BlackRock is the world’s largest third-party manager of insurance assets, managing over $800 billion of invested assets across public and private fixed income, equity and multi-asset investment strategies on behalf of over 400 plus insurance companies. The transactions and partnerships that SCS develop and execute are critical to further enhancing BlackRock’s position as a leading manager of insurance assets, catalyzing growth in BlackRock’s private market platform and allowing our investor clients to participate in attractive investment opportunities.
The SCS group’s primary activities are (1) working with insurers, investment banks and advisors to develop, structure and execute strategic insurance partnerships, (2) analyzing the investment merits of the partnerships, (3) working with institutional investors on co-investing into such transactions alongside BlackRock, and (4) collaborating with internal BlackRock teams on how best to deliver the scale and capabilities of BlackRock to the partnership. The role requires a fundamental understanding of insurance business models and strategy, creativity, a solutions-orientation, and the ability to work and execute complex transactions across internal and external organizations. Because the opportunities that the SCS group focus on are critical initiatives for our partners, you will work with senior-level executives at our partners and within BlackRock.
The SCS team is seeking to add a Director to the team, based in New York. The individual will be a key contributor to BlackRock’s insurance platform success, a subject matter expert, and a people and thought leader in the insurance space. The individual will work closely with the rest of the team, as well as other groups and leadership within BlackRock, to drive strategic transactions that are transformative for our insurance client partners and advance BlackRock’s own objectives.
Key responsibilities will include:
Drive execution of strategic relationships, partnerships and investments with / in insurers that are aligned with BlackRock’s long-term objectives by leveraging existing and building new senior-level relationships, and synthesizing industry trends and observations to drive informed decision-making. This will include senior-level engagement with insurer’s corporate development, finance and leadership teams, portfolio managers at leading institutional investors, and industry advisors including investments banks, actuarial consultants and law firms
Lead collaborations with internal BlackRock teams in identifying and evaluating potential partnerships with insurers spanning across investment management, advisory, product development, distribution and / or other commercial opportunities for BlackRock
Lead BlackRock’s internal and external investment processes, including commercial attractiveness, transaction due diligence, financial models and valuation analysis, internal investment memos and legal documents review and negotiations
Establish and grow relationships with co-investors to coinvest into investments alongside BlackRock
Coordinate with key stakeholders (internal and external) as needed to quarterback projects and strategic transactions
Support and execute other high-leverage cross-functional initiatives that require a holistic understanding of insurance industry trends and BlackRock’s platform.

Candidate Qualifications / Profile:
Bachelor’s degree with strong record of academic achievement
Minimum of 12 years of professional work experience, ideally within investment banking advisory, or in the life insurance or reinsurance sector; M&A, corporate strategy, and corporate development experience will be viewed favorably
Domain expertise in insurance and/or insurance asset management
Excellent problem-solving and communication skills; ability to distill complex ideas into clear and concise concepts
Industry relationships and the ability to be a self-starter and generate opportunities that align with the team’s objectives on one’s own initiative
Ability to lead a transaction process, including investment approvals
Strong financial analysis, communication and presentation skills
Project and people management skills, including proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
High attention to detail, intellectual curiosity, and motivation
Ability to build interpersonal relationships across teams and seniority levels

Our hybrid work model
