Seneca Lake Terrace in Geneva, New York is actively seeking a full-time Director of Nursing (RN or LPN), also known as the Wellness Director, for our 65-bed Assisted Living Community. This leadership position requires an experienced operational and clinical leader who can effectively oversee the Wellness Department while partnering closely with the Executive Director and community leadership team to ensure exceptional resident care, regulatory compliance, operational excellence, and staff accountability.

The ideal candidate will possess strong Assisted Living Residence (ALR) experience, a thorough understanding of New York State regulations, proven leadership abilities, and the ability to lead through collaboration, accountability, and results.


ResponsibilitiesClinical and Operational Leadership
  • Responsible for the overall leadership, management, and operational oversight of the Nursing/Wellness Department.
  • Serve as the clinical leader of the community while maintaining a strong operational mindset and understanding of how the Wellness Department impacts overall community success.
  • Act as a strategic partner and right-hand leader to the Executive Director in supporting community operations, regulatory compliance, quality outcomes, staffing, and resident satisfaction.
  • Lead the Wellness Department through effective communication, accountability, and collaboration with all departments and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate the ability to navigate operational and clinical challenges professionally while maintaining resident-centered care and regulatory compliance.
  • Maintain accountability for all department functions, including staffing, scheduling, on-call coverage, training, clinical outcomes, and regulatory compliance.
Resident Care and Case Management
  • In conjunction with the ADON, oversee case management including admissions, assessments, retention, and aging-in-place initiatives.
  • Evaluate resident needs to ensure appropriate services are provided while supporting residents' ability to remain in the community whenever safely possible.
  • Review incident reports, falls, medication variances, and clinical concerns while implementing corrective actions as needed.
  • Assist with nursing care on the floor when necessary.
Leadership and Team Development
  • Lead, coach, mentor, and develop nursing staff while fostering a culture of accountability and excellence.
  • Hold team members accountable for performance expectations, regulatory compliance, and quality outcomes.
  • Partner effectively with department directors and staff to ensure coordinated care and successful community operations.
  • Work with the Business Office Manager and leadership team to support recruitment, interviewing, onboarding, retention, and staffing initiatives.
  • Meet with new nursing team members to review orientation, training, and onboarding schedules.
  • Oversee staff attendance, performance management, coaching, and disciplinary processes when appropriate.
  • Maintain on-call schedules and participate in a 24/7 leadership on-call rotation.
  • Rotate Manager on Duty weekends with other Directors within the community
Regulatory Compliance and Quality Assurance
  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of Assisted Living Residence (ALR) regulations and ensure ongoing compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local requirements.
  • Lead regulatory surveys, inspections, complaint investigations, and state agency visits.
  • Demonstrate accountability for survey outcomes and compliance performance.
  • Develop, implement, monitor, and audit Plans of Correction (POCs) following surveys or regulatory findings.
  • Conduct routine audits and quality assurance reviews to identify opportunities for improvement and ensure sustained compliance.
  • Lead Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) initiatives and drive measurable quality outcomes.
  • Ensure proper documentation, clinical record compliance, and adherence to policies and procedures.
  • Conduct quarterly QA audits and maintain oversight of chart audits and clinical reviews.
  • Follow up on internal investigations related to abuse, neglect, theft, medication errors, falls, resident incidents, and other reportable events.
Communication and Collaboration
  • Effectively communicate with residents, families, physicians, staff, leadership, regulatory agencies, and community stakeholders.
  • Participate in leadership meetings, resident rounds, care conferences, stand-up meetings, and interdisciplinary team discussions.
  • Foster strong partnerships across departments to support resident care, operational efficiency, and organizational goals.
  • Serve as a visible and approachable leader within the community.
Administrative Responsibilities
  • Create and maintain monthly department schedules.
  • Maintain meeting schedules for stand-up meetings, resident rounds, therapy meetings, and interdisciplinary team meetings.
  • Assist with Long-Term Care Insurance documentation and medical-related paperwork.
  • Complete additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Must possess a valid RN or LPN license issued by the State of New York.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of nursing leadership experience, preferably in Assisted Living, Enhanced Assisted Living, Memory Care, or Long-Term Care settings.
  • Demonstrated Assisted Living Residence (ALR) experience with strong working knowledge of New York State regulations.
  • Proven experience leading clinical operations, staffing management, regulatory compliance, quality improvement, and survey readiness initiatives.
  • Strong operational leadership skills with the ability to balance resident care, regulatory compliance, staffing, and business objectives.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams, hold staff accountable, and drive results through coaching and performance management.
  • Experience developing and implementing Plans of Correction (POCs), conducting audits, and leading quality improvement initiatives.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with department directors, physicians, residents, families, and community stakeholders.
  • Must possess, at a minimum, a high school diploma or GED.
  • Must be available for on-call responsibilities and emergency response as needed.
  • Must adhere to the Resident Bill of Rights.
  • Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
  • Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
  • Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 25 pounds.
  • May be required to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.
Compensation and Benefits

Salary: $95,000 - $115,000 per year

· Must provide annual verification of a negative TB skin test.

· Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to ensure that the requirements of this position can be fully met.

· Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this facility, which include a medical and physical examination.

· Must be able to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and, at times, agitated residents

· Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a minimum height of 5 feet and be able to push, pull, move, and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet.

· May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.
