About the Role
Togetherhood is a marketplace connecting schools and community organizations with a network of instructors and teaching artists. We’re looking for a Director of Marketplace Operations to own the system that matches supply and demand and powers program delivery at scale.
This is a high-ownership, leadership role at the center of the business. You’ll be responsible for ensuring we can efficiently recruit, onboard, match, and support providers while meeting program demand across markets—all while maintaining high-quality delivery.
You’ll step into a functioning operation with real systems and team structure already in place, and will be responsible for maintaining strong performance while continuing to improve and scale how we operate. That includes refining workflows, improving visibility into performance, and strengthening the systems that power the marketplace.
You’ll operate as a player-coach: setting direction, improving systems, and stepping into execution when needed.
You’ll be a member of the leadership team, working closely with the CEO and functional leads to drive operational performance and scale the business.
What Success Looks Like (First 90 Days)Understand the marketplace quickly: learn how supply (providers) and demand (programs) are generated, matched, and fulfilled
Maintain strong performance: ensure consistent fill rates, coverage, and partner experience during the transition
Identify scaling opportunities: surface where workflows can be made more efficient, consistent, or scalable
Improve visibility: ensure clear, actionable reporting on core marketplace KPIs
Drive early improvements: refine key processes to increase reliability, efficiency, and team clarity
Own supply and demand operations: ensure we can efficiently recruit, onboard, and activate providers while meeting program demand across markets
Own the matching engine: oversee how providers are matched to programs, improving speed, quality, and reliability of placements
Own marketplace performance: drive key metrics including time to staff, fill rate, provider utilization, and program-level margins
Ensure quality of delivery: monitor course quality, identify where experiences fall short, and implement mechanisms to improve consistency
Operate within and strengthen our platform: run operations through our systems, not parallel workflows. Adopt tools, use them in practice, and provide structured feedback to improve them over time
Strengthen team execution: refine existing processes, meeting cadence, and ownership to improve clarity, accountability, and performance
Lead and develop your team: manage a growing operations team across talent, analytics, and on-site coordination
Operate as a player-coach: step into execution when needed and make high-quality decisions to keep the system running smoothly
Operating a real-time, two-sided marketplace with dynamic supply and demand
Balancing speed, cost, and quality across thousands of program sessions
Coordinating across multiple stakeholders: providers, schools, and internal teams
Scaling systems and processes alongside company growth
Maintaining high-quality delivery in a live, service-based environment
7+ years of operations experience in a startup or high-growth environment
Experience in a marketplace, staffing, logistics, or other supply-demand matching environment
Track record of owning and improving operational systems at scale
Strong analytical mindset and comfort working with metrics and performance data
Ability to operate in ambiguity and make high-quality decisions quickly
High ownership and bias for action
System-oriented operator: works within evolving tools and improves them over time, rather than building parallel workflows
Leverage mindset: improves efficiency through process, automation, and tools (including AI where appropriate)
Strong cross-functional communicator
NYC-based or willing to work in-person from our Midtown Manhattan office
$145K–$175K salary + equity
Health, vision, and dental benefits
In-person team environment in Midtown Manhattan
