About this role

Team Overview

BlackRock SMA Solutions helps clients customize portfolios for unique tax, values-alignment, or investment exposures across direct indexing, fixed income, active equity, and multi-asset. We deliver world-class investment management service to all of our clients, from wealth advisors to family offices to endowments and foundations.

About the opportunity:

With over $230B in client assets across direct index and active investment strategies, SMA Solutions is a rapidly growing business within USWA (~10% org growth rate). Our personalized portfolios utilize individual securities, BlackRock Mutual Funds, and iShares ETFs to customize, diversify, and tailor investment solutions to high net worth/ultra-high net worth, mass affluent, and institutional clients.

We are seeking a highly experienced leader with deep expertise in the Wealth Management space (ideally with Separately Managed Account (SMA) vehicles) to lead the organization towards the next generation of BlackRock’s SMA platform. The role combines deep knowledge of technology with a broad knowledge of investment management and SMA products to provide BlackRock with an SMA platform that can be used for the needs of various clients.

Responsibilities:

  • Program-level agile leadership: facilitate planning, cross‑team alignment, and system/solution demos; use flow and quality metrics to inform decisions and forecast outcomes.
  • Business architecture & requirements: lean on various SMEs to connect investment, trading, compliance, and operations workflows to product and technical epics; define feature priorities and acceptance criteria with a robust KPI framework.
  • Stakeholder alignment: build trusted partnerships across product, engineering, operations, risk, data, and other partners; manage trade‑offs and negotiate scope to land value on schedule.
  • Partner with product and engineering leaders to ensure architecture aligns with the SMA and broader BlackRock technology roadmaps; influence platform direction via deep knowledge of workflows, personas, and data structures.
  • Translate SMA strategic vision into actionable architecture, mapping business workflows to technical Epics and Features.
  • Change management at scale: prepare operating teams for adoption (process, controls, training) and ensure production readiness and run‑state ownership.
  • Continuous improvement: codify program standards, templates, and playbooks (artifacts, cadences, metrics) and roll them across SMA initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years in financial services leading cross‑functional programs at scale (product + engineering), with direct experience in SMA technology, and portfolio lifecycle (portfolio construction, trading, compliance, post‑trade).
  • Ability to translate business vision into architecture strategy, roadmaps, and structured objectives.
  • Strong commercial intuition—able to prioritize based on business value, risk, scale, and industry trends.
  • Mastery of agile approach to SDLC (PI planning, metrics‑driven delivery, release planning, scaled frameworks)
  • Executive presence with excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills; comfortable influencing at all levels.
  • Success in building and delivering complex platform products in a matrixed organization.
  • Delivery of compelling presentations to diverse audiences (from technical teams to commercial groups to senior executives) ensuring clarity, relevance, and impact.
  • Experience working with engineering and design teams using Agile/Scrum methodologies.
  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree (MBA, CFA, etc.) a plus.
  • Knowledge of BlackRock’s Aladdin platform is preferred
