We’re seeking an exceptional Director of Treasury Strategy to join our team and play a pivotal role in building a world class Treasury capability to manage liquidity, integrate risk management, ensure regulatory compliance and optimize returns.
The ideal candidate is a collaborative, yet assertive, detailed oriented leader who will leverage their experience to set and execute on a strategic vision to successfully scale Coinbase's Treasury capabilities . This role will work under the general supervision of the Coinbase Head of Treasury Operations.
What you’ll be doing (ie. job duties):
- Strategic Liquidity Management:
- Design and execute a comprehensive liquidity management strategy to optimize cash flow and ensure sufficient reserves.
- Develop an optimal structure of banking partners to support Coinbase growth leveraging innovative product offerings and technologies.
- Establish optimal structures, forecasting and processes for intercompany capital funding
- Monitor and forecast liquidity requirements, managing short- and long-term funding strategies.
- Regulatory Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with global regulations, including AML, KYC, safeguarding and other financial reporting requirements.
- Collaborate with legal and compliance teams to adapt treasury operations to evolving regulatory landscapes.
- Integrating Risk Management:
- Develop and enforce robust risk management frameworks for liquidity, FX, corporate insurance and digital asset exposure.
- Ensure alignment of treasury policies with the broader risk management strategy.
- Maximizing Returns on Investments:
- Evaluate and implement strategies for cash and digital asset investments to maximize returns while managing risk effectively.
- Drive innovation in treasury operations by leveraging new tools, technologies, and market opportunities.
- Automating Manual Workflows:
- Identify inefficiencies in current treasury processes and implement automation solutions to improve accuracy and reduce manual effort.
- Partner with technology teams to build and integrate seamless workflows.
- Enabling Product Strategy:
- Align treasury strategy with the company’s product roadmap, enabling seamless integrations and ensuring financial scalability.
- Provide Treasury support to product launches including payment integrations, new banks partnerships, stablecoins, system changes
What we look for in you (ie. job requirements):
To excel in this role, you should have:
- Experience in Treasury Leadership:
- 15+ years of experience in treasury, finance, or a related field, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
- Proven success in managing liquidity, investment portfolios, and financial risk in fast-paced, global, high-growth organizations.
- Fluent in highly complex intercompany capital and funding structures across a global corporation
- Understanding of and relationships with key participants in the global financial ecosystem e.g. banking institutions, payment service providers, technology solution providers
- Strategic Vision and Execution:
- Ability to set a clear vision for the treasury function and deliver on key objectives.
- Track record of implementing automation and efficiency initiatives.
- Familiarity with the most advanced treasury management systems (TMS) and other financial automation tools.
- Must be a self-starter, have attention to detail, possess strong prioritization and organization skills and be able to work in a fast-paced environment while handling multiple projects simultaneously
- Collaboration and Leadership:
- Exceptional interpersonal skills to work cross-functionally with teams like Product, Legal, Compliance, and Technology.
- Must have highly effective verbal, written, and presentation skills to articulate ideas and plans clearly, accurately, and effectively with all levels of internal and external audiences
- Demonstrated ability to influence executive team stakeholders
- Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills:
- Expertise in financial modeling, forecasting, and data-driven decision-making.
- A proactive approach to identifying risks and opportunities.
Nice to haves:
While not required, the following qualifications and experiences would be a strong plus:
- Technical Expertise in Crypto with an understanding of cryptocurrencies, blockchain technology, and decentralized finance (DeFi) with familiarity with managing digital assets in treasury operations.
- Experience working with or in fintech, crypto, or blockchain companies.
- Professional certifications such as CFA, CTP, or CPA.
- Advanced degree in Finance, Economics, or a related field.
- Knowledge of and experience complying with global regulatory frameworks and compliance.
