Editorial Assistant, Real Simple
Job Summary | Major goals and objectives.
The Editorial Assistant provides strong administrative support to senior level editors across all departments as needed, is responsible for sending out and keeping track of writer contracts and invoices, and helping to maintain the manuscript budget. This position also produces some front–of-book pages, interviews various outside sources, writes short items as needed across print and web, and will have opportunities to generate social media content.

- 60% - Assists Editor(s) with varied general administrative duties. Process expenses, generates author contracts, tracks
- budgets, tracks images, manages award submissions.
- 35% - Conducts interviews, writes short items, researches and pitches stories. Assists with fact-checking and story
- research for bigger pieces.
- 5% - Represents the magazine on the phone, at press events and other appointments.
Minimum Qualifications and Job Requirements | All must be met to be considered.
Education:
Completion of high school, or equivalent. Bachelor’s degree in Journalism or English preferred.
Experience:
Previous internship or 1-2 years at a major consumer magazine or website required at the editorial assistant level, along with
experience in writing, interviewing, reporting and social media.
Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Must be MAC proficient, with experience working with InCopy, Google Suite, Oracle and social media platforms preferred.
- Good writing, editing and research skills.
- Good organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while consistently meeting tight deadlines.
- Must be very detail oriented.
- Have an interest in home and lifestyle topics; be in tune with trends in these areas
