About Union

Union is a 4-person People Operations and Recruiting firm for high-retention startups. We work with our clients to build or upgrade any process, tools, and performance management policies necessary so our candidates, and everyone our clients hire, succeed long-term.

About the Role:

Most of our team is EST and we seek support for our clients that work primarily in CT and PST.

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented People Operations Expert to own a subset of our client’s People Ops and HR Functions. Most of our clients are 10-60 person startups and SMBs in the US with some international teams. You will own client relationships and delivery for Union’s embedded HR consulting model. Partner with founders and execs at high-growth startups to design and run people programs that work — from payroll and onboarding to comp bands and performance systems.

The ideal candidate will have 4-8 years of experience in human resources at startups, a strong command of professional (yet, casual) communications and project management skills, and can delegate tasks to our internal HR Admin. The right candidate is excited about building the new performance review structures of the future, but also willing to meet clients' where they are at and help create what companies are ready to utilize.

This role offers an exciting opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment while contributing to the efficient functioning of a growing organization. We are a kind and friendly group that works sustainably for ourselves and one another.

Role's Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as the day-to-day HR partner for 6–10 startup clients

  • Manage payroll, benefits, onboarding/offboarding, and employee relations

  • Advise founders and execs on org design, compensation, and feedback culture

  • Build performance review cycles, leveling frameworks, and HR policies

  • Handle tricky employee relations with empathy and sound judgment

  • Plan offsites, host virtual client events and facilitate virtual workshops

  • Shape strategy around recruiting, compensation (ie philosophy + bands), and leveling

  • Collaborate with Union’s internal admin and CEO on deliverables and insights

Our Ideal Candidate:

  • Ready to work primarily in CT and PST hours

  • Hospitality mindset: you want to make employees have a great experience. You love creating special moments for people.

  • You’ve likely led HR or People Ops function at a 30–150-person startup or feel ready to be a Director-level role

  • You’re known for clarity, follow-through, and kindness

  • You understand how startups make money — and how HR drives business results

  • You enjoy structure and rigor and process, but thrive in variety and change

Compensation and Benefits:

  • $80,000 - $100,000 a year

  • Medical Insurance individual plan is 100% covered

  • Dental and Vision coverage provided

  • Unlimited PTO

  • Macbook Air provided
