Away is seeking a Director, Quality Assurance to play a key role in how we manage and lead the Away QA function globally. This individual will be a key member of the product development team responsible for ensuring product quality remains high and consistent as we scale and expand our product line. An independent problem solver, with strong attention to detail and project management skills in quality control will excel in this role. The Director will partner closely across both our Asia based product development team and US headquarter-based teams. The Director, Quality Assurance reports directly to the VP, Product Development and Sourcing and is located at our downtown Manhattan office.

Some of What You’ll Do:

• Help execute the Away vision for QA management and reporting internally
• Partner cross-functionally with teams including product development, design, customer experience, and operations
• Manage the Asia based Director of Product Development and QA
• Design and improve procedures as Away develops a QA dedicated team to manage new product development and production at multiple locations
• Prioritize issues and work with the the needed experts to resolve issues on a timely basis
• Contribute to risk assessments of new product launches early in the development cycle to avoid issues
• Participate in new product development reviews to help Away avoid common issues startups face
• Implement 6 Sigma approach to critical product evaluations.
• Work closely with both US and Asia based Product Development management to prioritize when to travel to any of our several suppliers throughout throughout Asia including Taiwan, Guangzhou, Xiamen, and Vietnam - review products in early stages of development to try to avoid issues.
• Review factory lab testing capabilities
• Corporate Social Responsibility: actively participate in the factory certification process as it pertains to Away’s social impact initiatives including initial assessment and managing ongoing improvements pending audits

Who you are:

• 10+ years of experience in product development and quality assurance specifically ideally with luggage or soft goods
• Ability to problem solve with factory senior management
• An understanding of raw materials and finished goods testing
• Knowledgeable of incoming raw materials inspection processes, in-line inspection, and finished goods inspection
• Creative and efficient problem solver who is committed to achieving unique design and brand vision of Away.
• Rigorous at identifying issues and prioritizing topics
• Strong written and verbal communicator with the ability to make well informed decisions independently
• Willing to travel frequently throughout Asia
