About the Role:

We are looking for an Engineering Manager who will act as an integral engineering leader here at Transfix. Our engineers don’t operate in silos, so we are looking for someone who enjoys collaborating within cross-functional squads of engineers, product managers, designers, and data scientists. In this role, you’ll define standards and practices for your teams, set the bar for quality in products we release, and help to ensure that our operations are resilient, repeatable, and scalable.

Our tech stack consists of Ruby on Rails, Python, React/Redux, PostgreSQL, Redis, and Dynamo. We are hosted on AWS and leverage a variety of their services. Code is tested using CircleCI and a variety of unit- and end-to-end testing frameworks including RSpec, unittest, Jest, and Cypress. We monitor our production software with tools like Datadog, Sentry, and CloudWatch.

In this role, you’ll be a true player-coach. You’ll certainly roll up your sleeves and make technical contributions (10-50% of the time), but you’ll also lead a team of 4-8 direct reports, and will help drive our big picture tech strategy by leading design reviews, reviewing PRs, fixing bugs, and helping us remove any roadblocks to success.

*Location Note: This is a 100% Remote role, however we value real-time collaboration in our teams and are prioritizing candidates in Eastern, Central, and Atlantic time zones.

What you’ll do in this Role:

• Plan and scope the work of your team, leveraging a culture of Continuous Deployment and Automated Testing to enable rapid delivery of new products, APIs, and services.
• Set the standard for quality and provide targeted, thoughtful feedback that drives results and optimal team performance 
• Partner with our Talent and People teams to effectively recruit, train, mentor, and develop individual team members
• Manage technical operations for your team’s products, ensuring that issues are detected and resolved quickly
• Foster a culture of continuous learning through retrospectives and incident post-mortems

You’ll be a Great Fit for this Role if:

• You have 5+ years professional experience writing, delivering, supporting, and debugging production software
• You have spent at least one year in a tech lead or engineering manager role, and/or you have an interest in helping engineers reach their full potential
• You have deep experience in at least one of these languages: Ruby, Python, or JavaScript (Node.js), and have worked with a variety of modern web technologies
• You advocate for best practices and high quality code in your teams, and are thoughtful about prioritizing improvements that make meaningful impacts for your customers and your team
• You take pride in delivering high-quality products and build confidence in the software you deploy using a combination of peer review, automated testing, manual testing, and monitoring tools
• You have a bias for shipping, learning, and iterating
• You can constructively disagree with others while building and maintaining trust and respect
