The Role You'll Play:
As an Engineering Manager at CB Insights you will lead a high performing team to solve challenging technical problems and coach engineers to meet their full potential. The Data Pipelines mission is to ingest, enrich and store data via a stable, scalable and highly performant data infrastructure that empowers our internal and external customers to get their jobs done. Our Engineering Managers’ main responsibility is to build and foster a cross-disciplinary team that regularly ships high quality code to production. The ideal candidate not only has the technical chops to dive into code, but also has the proven ability to provide technical leadership for projects while inspiring a team of software engineers. This is a technical and managerial role, enabling the team to build beautiful user interfaces, robust services and scalable data processing jobs, while partnering closely with the product and design teams and managing stakeholders. Much of our software team has been with us for several years, despite a competitive tech market. Your main tasks:
- Manage an engineering team that follows agile principles
- Coach, mentor, inspire and support a team of 4-7 engineers
- Lead by example through technical design, hands-on coding, and code reviews
- Work with your Product Manager partner to consistently and frequently deliver solutions that are well-engineered, maintainable, and of high quality
What you bring to the table:
- 8+ years professional software development experience (Python, Go, or similar)
- 2+ years in an engineering leadership role
- Pragmatic approach to technology with a startup mindset
- Proficiency with modern front-end technologies & API designs
- Experience with modern data pipelines technologies (Kafka, Airflow, etc)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Exceptional problem solving and analytical skills
- Strong relational database skills (e.g. MySQL, Aurora, PostgreSQL, Oracle)
- Strong understanding of development best practices, continuous integration, source control, code reviews
- Proficiency developing in a Mac/Linux environment
