As an Engineering Manager, you will mentor 2-3 Product Development teams composed of 2-4 engineers each in the creation of high-quality, design-detailed, delightful education experiences. You will cultivate a healthy engineering culture across teams and nurture solid technical foundations within their code. You’ll guide teams to deliver a mobile-first, responsive, WCAG AA accessible, highly performant web application that truly solves for the day-to-day needs for students and teachers. You’ll also be instrumental in building an engineering culture that values teaching, learning, and questioning while cultivating psychological safety. You’ll continue to build our culture of learning by supporting your engineers in regular one-on-ones with coaching, feedback, and sponsorship.
Why You’ll Love This Role:
You’ll get the satisfaction of knowing that the product you help create will be deeply appreciated by students and teachers across the country. You’ll create these experiences with thoughtful, creative, earnest people who understand that getting something right means taking risks, making mistakes, and trying again. Your care for others, and your ability to listen will come into full effect and be as crucial to your success as your technical acumen. And because we’re a technology company focused on improving the way students learn, you’ll be part of an engineering culture that values teaching, learning, and questioning. You’ll continue to build our culture of learning by providing close mentorship to your team of developers as needed, and regular one-on-one’s, all to ensure you’re growing your team’s technical skills and interests.
Why We’ll Love You:
With 8+ years experience in web-focused engineering, including clear experience in engineering leadership, you have a successful history of building highly usable products. You understand how to cultivate growth and curiosity not just for individual engineers, but entire teams including Product, Design, and more, in creating an atmosphere of psychological safety and creativity. Your experience delivering products over the web means you have in-depth knowledge of web standards and protocols, browser and device ecosystems, and system architectures, and you are able to represent the intention of the product and the needs of the users in discussions with others. You have also developed a keen sense for the signs of a healthy team, derive satisfaction from helping others to succeed, and are an effective technical leader who inspires your team to prioritize healthy software development practices and quality code.
