About the role: 

Foursquare is looking for an Engineering Operations Manager to join the team. The right candidate will be a strategic mastermind with incredible attention to detail who can partner with our SVP of Engineering and the global organization. You will possess expert project management skills, a keen attention to detail and the ability to strategize and execute against an aggressive technical vision.

Responsibilities:

Program management.

Program Management in this role is all about managing the weekly, quarterly, and annual rhythm of the engineering organization. This includes driving and/or supporting the following functions:

  • Organize regular staff meetings
  • Coordinating the business and product roadmaps with the PMs and engineering leads
  • Annual strategic planning and budgeting (for the business lines)
  • Managing headcount and prioritization of open roles
  • Support in building internal and external presentations for the SVP of Eng
  • Support on Board meetings for the engineering team
  • Collaborating on metrics tracking and OKRs for the engineering team
  • Support on agendas and direction for meetings led by the SVP of Eng, ensure there are clear action items and follow ups after every meeting
  • Turning unstructured communications (e.g. hallway chats) into structured communications
  • Act as a leverage multiplier for the SVP, gathering and relaying information, catching and remediating miscommunications
  • Closely partnering with HR teams on talent agenda

Advisory

The Operations Manager is a trusted advisor and provides counsel to the SVP, Engineering on matters including:

  • Identifying opportunities to improve engagement and enablement
  • Setting process and cadence for cross-team and upward communication
  • Knowing the people and the skillsets of the broad organization
  • Advising on optimal organization design
  • Being a trusted advocate and thought partner

Strategic projects

The Operations Manager will drive and manage select strategic projects for the engineering team as they arise. These projects will be defined at the time of need, but examples could include:

  • One-off cross functional strategic projects that impact the engineering organization
  • Competitive landscape research and collaboration on thought leadership
  • Lead in managing external speaking engagements with the communications team
  • Market or competitive research and information gathering, dissemination
  • Cross-team technical projects with aggressive deadlines
  • Cross-team RFP and customer pursuit

Required Skills

  • Strong communication, both written and verbal
  • Deep knowledge and demonstrated experience working with product teams
  • Understanding of roadmapping and business strategy
  • Analytical and metrics driven
  • Highly motivated, entrepreneurial, able to push through ambiguity
  • Deep sense of intellectual curiosity and respect for creative work
  • Ability to research complex topics with overlapping technology, finance, legal, and general management issues
  • Expert ability to handle multiple tasks in parallel
  • High level of integrity with respect to confidential information,
  • Confident in managing up and partnering with all levels of the organization
