Job Description

As a SIMON Core Engineer, you will play an integral role in designing and implementing systems that power the largest platform existing today for managed-risk financial products. Our Core team is a dynamic, agile team that forms the glue between our DevOps and application engineers. The team is responsible for building frameworks and libraries that are used by other teams at SIMON to build applications. The Core team is also responsible for configuring, enhancing and managing critical systems like our API Gateway and Identity Management System.

What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field
  • 5+ years of relevant work experience, at least 2 years in a leadership role
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills with good written and spoken English
  • In-depth experience writing unit, acceptance and performance tests
  • Familiarity with HTTP and TCP/IP networking
  • Experience with Amazon Web Services, Docker, Help, Kubernetes, etc.
  • Experience building APIs for large-scale applications using Scala, Java or Go
  • Understanding of OAuth and other authentication and authorization standards

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with or knowledge of Kong API Gateway and Okta Identity Management

No matter which part of the team you join, there is something interesting to work on. Our front-end team is building out our web and mobile presence using React, Redux, and Webpack along with some very sophisticated data visualizations. Our back-end team is using Scala, Akka, Postgres and other open-source technologies to build a micro-services architecture that can scale to handle our ambitious roadmap. Our quantitative engineering team is researching and building novel financial strategies to widen our competitive advantage. Our dev-ops team is creating a development and production environment with Docker and Kubernetes to keep us nimble. Product Management sits in the middle of it all to make it happen.

While we transitioned seamlessly into a flexible work-from-home model in March 2020, we recently opened expansive tech-ready, and flexible new office spaces in NYC and Birmingham, AL for any vaccinated teammates who wish to take advantage.
