Senior Back End Engineer (Platform)

We are seeking a Senior Back End Engineer to join the team and contribute to the backend of the Cedar platform. This role will be responsible for helping maintain the health and efficiency of the core Cedar tech stack. They’ll be supporting other teams by executing on major infrastructure projects, and helping make production systems fast, reliable, and scalable.

Responsibilities
- Work on scalability challenges on production systems, including database performance tuning, optimizing inefficient python code, and load testing for production systems
- Design, build and maintain a framework for monitoring, logging, and alerting on the performance of our internal systems and product
- Manage the tech stack, including handling dependency versions and platform major version upgrades
- Work on implementing pieces of service-oriented architecture, crafting better lines of separation between different parts of the application
- Becoming a specialist on cloud infrastructure and how to demonstrate it effectively to run our platform
Skills & Experience
- 4+ years of experience in backend software development
- Knowledge of basic architecture and systems design principles
- Experience working with cloud infrastructures and platforms. AWS preferred.
- Familiarity with data structures, relational databases (especially Postgres), especially around performance and scalability
- Strong coding and technical architecture skills, with experience shipping production-critical software
- Experience developing applications with ORMs. Python/Django preferred.
- Ability to thrive in an entrepreneurial environment, comfort with ambiguity
- Excellent communication and listening skills
- Familiarity with Python internals a plus
- Passionate about Cedar’s mission of improving the healthcare financial experience
