The Role:

As a Software Engineer for Recommendations, you’ll partner with Senior engineers on the team to drive high-level technology decisions as well as day-to-day development on the team that’s building Newsela’s content recommendation engine. You’ll focus on how to improve the predictive power of our recommendation tools. You’ll also help build data pipelines and an ML Inference System to predict and surface recommended content throughout the platform. Reporting to the Sr.Director of Search and Recommendations, you’ll work closely with our Data Science and Product Management teams to set the strategy for content recommendations.

Why We’ll Love You:

You have 2+ years of professional experience in working on data-intensive applications either in the role of a software engineer or a ML engineer. You understand data and you have experience in machine learning either through your academic background or through professional experience. You also have a strong understanding of distributed systems and backend development; bonus if you have experience in Search/recommender systems. Additionally, you have a demonstrated competency in Python and can write clean, understandable code. You model engineering excellence by writing good test cases, comments etc. You enjoy doing data analysis, data exploration, and always look for ways to make a bigger impact on our goals. You don’t shy away from uncertainty and you strive to attain clarity. You are a team player and you enjoy collaborating with other engineers on the team and on the broader organization.
