Job Description
ABOUT THE ROLE:
We are looking for an individual to fill the role of Staff DevOps Engineer. As a member of the NBC Production Infrastructure team, this individual would architect solutions to further migrate Enterprise IT offerings to the cloud. They will also be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining cloud infrastructure and services that directly support broadcast production.
Reliability Engineeringis a methodology that combines automation, codified infrastructure, and continuous delivery to reduce operational complexity and increase platform stability and usability. Applying this approach to the enterprise broadcast environment, the Staff DevOps Engineer will design and build solutions to automate, provision, and maintain infrastructure across hybrid cloud environments.
This role will rely heavily on Infrastructure-As-Code, Configuration Management, and cloud-native architecture.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Utilize infrastructure as-code and GitOps tooling to enable secure and reliable provisioning of systems across hybrid cloud environments (AWS, Azure, VMWare, Nutanix, etc)
  • Design and implement CI / CD pipelines to ensure code quality, agility, security, and policy.
  • Provide technical guidance to a growing team of developers, ensuring and enforcing best application and network security practices
  • Design, Implement and Maintain a platform for media and production services
  • Write code to support automation, monitoring and diagnostic tools
  • Automate and configure processes to continuously improve the production environment, including self-service options for Enterprise clients
  • Maintain production systems by measuring and monitoring availability, latency, and overall system health
  • Design highly available services across regions and datacenters


Qualifications
REQUIREMENTS:

  • 6+ years experience with infrastructure-as-code and configuration management tools such as Terraform, Helm, Puppet, and Ansible
  • 2-3 years experience with Kubernetes, specifically EKS/AKS and other container orchestrator services (ECS, Fargate)
  • 6+ years experience designing and implementing strategic cloud-native and microservice architectures at enterprise scale, with an understanding of design principles for scalability, performance, and reliability
  • 6+ years experience designing and implementing innovative IT infrastructure solutions at enterprise scale
  • Production experience with AWS/Azure platforms and core service offerings
  • Experience with VDI workflows, desktop delivery, image pipelines, remote connectivity
  • Linux/Windows operating system internals, debugging, and best practices
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills (presenting to executives, engagement with vendors, technical writing, documentation, etc)
  • Keen eye for information cyber security (zero-trust, machine identity, authentication, authorization, secrets abstraction)
  • Proficient in at least one of the following languages: Python, Bash, Powershell


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience as a Cloud Solutions Architect, or similar role
  • Relevant Cloud / IT certifications
  • Rest API design, implementation, usage, debugging, and documentation
  • Proficiency with source control repositories (GitHub, GitLab), pipelines and integrations
  • Experience with monitoring/alerting suites (Datadog, Cloudwatch, Grafana, Azure Monitor, etc)
  • Service mesh / service discovery
  • PKI certificate management
  • Agile methodologies, image pipelines, CI/CD, SDLC
  • Understanding of software-defined-networking and service connectivity - specifically Cisco ACI, Azure VWAN, AWS Transit Gateway, Express Route, Direct Connect, routing protocols
  • Contribution to open-source projects
  • Comfort working with nosql databases
  • Proficiency writing and debugging code in Python and/or Go
  • Ability to script routine tasks in Bash and PowerShell
  • Expertise in design principles for scalability, performance, and reliability
