Namely is seeking a Staff Engineer to build reliable, scalable, and maintainable .NET services for our Benefits Platform. As a Staff Engineer, you will lead by example in the design and implementation of major features and components of the Namely platform.

 

We’ve built a strong and a high performing Benefits engineering team to date, but have a lot of work ahead of us, including:

  • Migrating from a monolith to a microservice architecture, including a complete overhaul and rewrite of integration between Payroll and Benefits domains
  • Defining domain boundaries and implementing robust APIs for internal and public consumption of our BenACA (Benefits and Affordable Care Act) services
  • Leveling up our platform, including enhancing our test coverage, observability, alerting, and performance

Help us scale our business to meet the needs of our growing customer base and develop new products on the Namely platform. Responsibilities:

  • Designing and implementing migration strategies for legacy code to move existing functionality out of our monoliths, and into modern services
  • Evolve our systems through solid architectural design and driving best practices through code review
  • Work on a cross-functional team(s), partnering across engineering, product, design, and business functions
  • Implementing and maintaining containerized gRPC services on .NET Core with C#, and deploying these services to Kubernetes on AWS
  • Collaborating with the various Namely Labs teams (Product, Design, and Engineering) to design APIs that support new or enhanced product features
  • Designing and contributing features to our shared DotNetHelpers library, which provides core functionality used by all of our .NET services
  • Provide technical mentorship to engineers across our organization
  • Supporting production services on a rotation
  • Reviewing design docs and pull requests for relevant services and repositories
  • Supporting other engineering organizations, such as Site Reliability, as they bring in new platform features and testing technologies

Requirements:

  • 10+ years of experience overall writing production software
  • 6+ years of recent experience writing production software with C# / .NET
  • Experience designing and developing APIs
  • Experience with relational data modeling, and in-depth knowledge of an RDBMS, preferably Microsoft SQL Server or Postgres
  • Experience developing applications using ASP.NET (MVC/WebForms/WebAPI)
  • Experience with JavaScript and other web technologies (HTTP, JSON, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of security best practices
  • Experience using Docker and Kubernetes in production
  • Experience working on distributed systems
  • Experience working with Messaging brokers like RaabbitMQ, Kafka and other PubSub frameworks
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Nice to Have:

  • Experience with Protobuf / gRPC
  • Experience working with Redis
  • Proficiency with troubleshooting T-SQL stored procedures, views, and functions
  • Experience with event sourced and CQRS design patterns
  • Experience with ES2015+, React, and Redux
  • Experience with AWS (S3, EC2, SQS, etc.)
  • Familiarity with Payroll/Benefits Software

This position has a salary range of ​​$170,000 - 230,000 per annum. Namely offers employees medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) plan with company match, equity, flexible spending accounts, $50,000 basic life and AD&D, free telehealthcare, paid vacation, holidays and sick leave, employee stock purchase plan, paid family leave, and many other available benefits. This information is provided per the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act. Base pay information is based on the market location.
