Why Numeric

Every business relies on accounting. Yet most software in the space was built in the early 2000s — clunky, slow, and far behind the curve on AI. Today, accountants are facing a growing, unsolved data problem as a consequence of complexity, data, and system fragmentation — and they lack the tools to solve it. The problems are real, hard, and increasingly urgent. But they’re solvable.

Enter Numeric — the modern platform for accounting and finance. We're building the platform that realizes the dream of live, rich, trustworthy data and insights for companies to drive decision-making & execution.

We tackle foundational challenges required to automate ingest, transformation, matching, projection, and reporting for an end-to-end graph of financial data. Weaving together data, automation, workflows, and AI-first experiences, we’re empowering accounting teams to own the continuous window into companies' finances and activity.

We have strong product market fit and a growing base of customers who love our product — including Anthropic, Brex, OpenAI, Plaid, Wealthfront, and many more. We’re backed by top-tier investors including IVP, Menlo Ventures, Founders Fund, and 8VC, along with founders and executives from Ramp, Segment, and other category-defining companies.

About the role

You'll build Numeric's developer platform. Your customer is our own engineering organization, and your mandate is to maximize the product teams' velocity and capacity to self-serve tooling and infra, to ship confidently, and to share common tools and ideas.

You'll build tools, lead the charge on defining the "paved road" for engineering, embed with product teams as needed, and ship features & fixes with some frequency to stay grounded in the on-the-ground experience.

The right candidate:

  • is technically deep, able to own and execute a variety of projects for tooling and deployment

  • is pragmatic; the fewest and simplest tools in the stack will serve velocity best

  • loves thinking about developer experience

  • has product building experience

You’ll both execute on improvements to our system and drive the long-term vision for the function, working closely with the engineering leadership.

Requirements
  • Computer science or other technical degree

  • 6+ years of experience in software engineering

How we work

As an engineer at Numeric you will learn the domain, meet your users, and exercise substantial creativity and agency over product direction. You'll work with a high-pace, high-integrity team that loves collaboration.

We believe the best company is the one with the best ICs and we’ve built a culture to maximize great work. We believe great product & engineering come from a desire to win, a deep care for the craft, and a pragmatism in shipping for overall impact. As engineers we ground our work in our understanding of the users, the domain, and the goals for our organization.

We strongly believe we will only be successful if everyone on the team is anchored in our following set of core principles:

  • Own the Outcome: We own our results. We typically hire builders and give them large mandates with high-trust. Engineers are responsible not just for code, but for ensuring the product is solving the end problems of the users.

  • Brick by Brick: To win, our team needs to show up and execute in each domain every day.

  • Love the Game: We focus on the craft and a deep sense of giving a f*ck. We’re building a company full of people who are equally engaged and motivated.

  • Earn the right: Our ability to rethink how things are done depends on the trust and reputation we build by shipping quality products and improving the lives of our users.

  • SALY: We refuse to accept “Same As Last Year.” We bring fresh eyes to a stagnated and underserved domain. We’re driven by a first-principles approach to building better solutions.
