At Netflix, our mission is to entertain the world. Together, we are writing the next episode - pushing the boundaries of storytelling, global fandom and making the unimaginable a reality. We are a dream team obsessed with the uncomfortable excitement of discovering what happens when you merge creativity, intuition and cutting-edge technology. Come be a part of what’s next.

The Opportunity:

The Cloud Infrastructure Organization’s mission is to increase the fleet-wide agility, scalability, reliability, and efficiency of our Platform. We are responsible for one of the largest Cloud Compute footprints built on AWS and constantly seeking to push boundaries through innovation to delight hundreds of millions of Netflix users daily.

We are seeking an experienced engineering leader to lead a team of engineers responsible for the runtime portion of our Cloud Compute group. The team is responsible for enabling containers to run on our compute nodes as efficiently and reliably as possible. The team owns the Kubernetes data plane software; the container runtime; the way we download and run containers; and maintaining the underlying compute node’s operating system. The team partners with other teams within Netflix to ensure we stay ahead of the business's needs and enable other teams to innovate on top of our platform.

You will be leading a stunning set of engineers who tackle some of the largest cloud compute challenges in the industry. We are moving quickly to support critical business initiatives. You will own key pieces of the cloud compute infrastructure and be able to directly trace your work to meaningful business impact, all while working on extremely high-scale systems only found at a handful of companies.

Some examples of the team’s work can be found in tech blogs on “noisy neighbor” detection and mount lock contention.

What you will do:

  • Deliver compute platform capabilities and drive adoption across Netflix with a focus on engineering excellence, timely execution, and meeting business objectives.

  • Build, scale, and mentor a cohesive team of amazing engineers.

  • Form strong cross-functional partnerships driven by trust to achieve alignment with many engineering teams and ensure our solutions meet their needs, while maintaining our focus on agility, scalability, reliability, and efficiency.

  • Own a roadmap of proactive improvements to stay ahead of business needs.

What we are looking for:

  • A product-focused leader who understands what customers want and has a passion for building platforms.

  • A deeply technical manager who understands the development & management of distributed systems and at-scale software services.

  • Someone who is able to work with “context not control” and lead their team with “context not control”.

  • Experience building and operating complex distributed systems at scale in the cloud-compute domain.

  • Solid understanding of Kubernetes or other systems for distributed compute orchestration.

  • Track record of shipping/solving hard problems with tricky technical or organizational constraints and complex migration efforts while building trust with partners.

  • Ability to navigate ambiguity and help teams thrive in a highly-aligned, loosely-couple environment.

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
