About the Team

The Analytics & Data Experience (ADX) organization plays a critical role in enabling Data Engineers, Analytics Engineers, and Data Scientists by enhancing the end-to-end developer experience on Netflix’s Data Platform. We go beyond building infrastructure—we focus on enablement - creating platforms and tooling that reduce complexity, accelerate development, and empower data practitioners to solve complex analytical problems and drive innovation at scale.

We’re hiring an Engineering Manager to lead the Data Developer Experience (DDX) team—a dream team of eleven stellar engineers focused on eliminating toil, reducing friction, and simplifying complexity for data practitioners. The team brings modern software engineering practices to data development and continuously improves workflows to boost productivity across Netflix.

The DDX team is responsible for a broad and impactful portfolio that includes remote development environments, data pipeline management tooling such as Dataflow and the Data Auditor framework, the Data Platform SDK, IDE optimization for data practitioners, Notebooks infrastructure, and more.

What You Will Do

  • Partner to deliver vision and strategy while maximizing adoption of current and future technologies in the space of data developer productivity.

  • Leverage deep domain expertise in data developer productivity and infrastructure to guide work across critical domains.

  • Influence strategy and decision-making across ADX and beyond, driving organizational success.

  • Form trusting cross-functional partnerships to align a wide range of stakeholders to ensure our offerings meet their needs, selflessly prioritizing work beyond the scope of your own domain.

  • Build, scale, and grow a team of outstanding engineers, challenge them to bring their best selves to work every day, and deliver industry-leading results in stability, performance, and efficiency.

  • Balance smart risks, investment in foundational technical work, tech debt reduction, and fast iteration to deliver timely results across multiple critical strategies

  • Collaborate deeply with adjacent platform teams (e.g. compute, storage, engines, metadata, and UI teams) to ensure a cohesive and reliable end-to-end developer experience.

  • Ensure the delivery of reliable and intuitive internal tools and platforms that meet the needs of data practitioners' workflows. Oversee their development and operations, ensuring high availability and minimal operational overhead.

What We are Looking For

  • A proven track record in Engineering Leadership, preferably leading high-performing, geographically distributed Engineers.

  • The ability to dive deep into technical strategy and vision in order to facilitate trade-offs and shape products with different layers of context in mind.

  • Proven experience building and scaling distributed systems and developer platforms that support critical business workflows.

  • Domain Expertise that you can translate across various critical domains, influencing platform direction beyond your immediate team.

  • Excellence in aligning cross-functional partners (like product managers) and stakeholders to deliver high-impact results.

  • Willingness and desire to drive clarity in ambiguous spaces, and influence immediate and adjacent teams through trust, curiosity, technical insight, and informed opinions.

  • Proven track record of helping teams navigate complexity, make smart trade-offs, deliver timely results on critical priorities amidst numerous demands and complex business priorities.

  • Inclusive Leadership - Experience in building and leading high-performance software engineering teams with a focus on inclusion and diversity, ensuring the attraction and retention of top talent from diverse backgrounds and that all voices are heard to inform direction.
