About Us

Axle Health builds AI scheduling and workforce management software to empower in-home healthcare providers to deliver exceptional, personalized care right where patients feel most comfortable—at home.

Some of the biggest providers in the country use our software (like Cityblock Health and U Penn Health System) to improve the utilization of their field teams by 17%+, and automate the operational burden of scheduling and dispatching.

Our platform includes proprietary logistics algorithms to optimize scheduling, a mobile app for field staff, an operations dashboard for office teams, engagement and booking tools for patients, and a wide range of integrations and external APIs for modular access.

We’re a team of top-tier engineers and operators, backed by $14m from top investors such as Y Combinator, Pear VC, and F-Prime, applying our intellect and logistics experience to upend how home healthcare is delivered.

About You

We're looking for an Engineering Manager to lead Axle's Front-End and Mobile Engineering team. In this role, you'll balance your time between writing and reviewing code (building the web and mobile surfaces that clinicians, schedulers, and patients use every day) while also managing and growing a small team of engineers. You'll report directly to our CTO and work closely across product, design, and backend engineering to ship high-quality, reliable software at a meaningful pace.

Our ideal candidate is a strong full-stack engineer with deep front-end and mobile experience who has started their management career path. You're comfortable holding both a technical and a people lens simultaneously. You care about code quality, design systems, and user experience, and you know how to help engineers on your team grow. You thrive in a startup environment where the roadmap is ambitious, the team is small, and ownership is real.

What You’ll Do
  • Coach and mentor engineers at various career stages while fostering a collaborative team culture

  • Build and scale the mobile and web application engineering teams

  • Track progress and coordinate delivery across concurrent initiatives

  • Partner with product and design to translate requirements into clean, well-scoped engineering plans

  • Spend the majority of your time as an individual contributor (writing, reviewing, and shipping code) while managing a small team of front-end and mobile engineers

  • Own code quality and performance standards across the web and mobile codebase

  • Ensure developer velocity by implementing and advocating for development process improvement across multiple technical workstreams

  • Contribute to front-end and mobile architecture decisions, ensuring code is scalable, maintainable, and consistent with team standards

  • Design and build systems that comply with healthcare data security standards and regulations (HIPAA, SOC-2, HITRUST, etc.)

Requirements
  • Experience working in a startup environment

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field

  • 6+ years of software engineering experience with 3+ years in engineering management

  • Track record of successfully delivering complex technical projects on schedule in a high growth, fast paced, startup environment

  • Experience with RESTful APIs, GraphQL APIs, web services, and modern API development practices

  • Hands on development experience with React, Typescript, React Native or equivalent mobile framework, JavaScript, and Node

  • Excellent communication skills for explaining technical concepts to diverse stakeholders

  • Proven ability to evaluate, develop, and retain engineering talent

  • Working knowledge of data security and compliance requirements

  • Prior work with scheduling, logistics, workforce management, or business operations solutions

Nice to Haves
  • Experience with design systems or component library development

  • Experience with backend systems and frameworks such as Python and Django

  • Experience at a growth stage healthcare technology startup

  • Prior work with home healthcare, telehealth, or care coordination solutions

  • Familiarity with logistics optimization and scheduling systems

  • Strong understanding of healthcare interoperability standards (FHIR, HL7)

  • Experience managing and deploying applications with AWS
