About the Platform team:
Our Platform team executes on our scaling, reliability, and enablement efforts as we look to double our customer base over the next few years. Our scope includes both scalable infrastructure, and our core backend software systems. Success means delivering just-in-time capacity, running workloads quickly, and ensuring data scalability across numerous applications, while balancing costs and addressing issues like implementation and infrastructure inefficiencies.

About the role:

We’re looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to lead one of our three Platform pods (Green pod), which is responsible for core backend systems and infrastructure. This is a high-impact, hands-on role where you’ll grow and support engineers, align with staff and leadership on strategy, and help your team deliver key reliability, performance, and enablement initiatives.

As an Engineering Manager, you’ll focus on:

• Speed and quality of delivery – drive helpful processes that ensure your engineers can build software as efficiently as possible while maintaining a high bar for product quality.

• Technical innovation and investment – help us set technical quality standards for our codebase, and ensure the team is making proper debt investments while making progress on product roadmaps

• Career development and hiring – help expand, uplevel, and promote your engineers in an equitable fashion, ensuring every individual has the same opportunity for success.

• Cultural development – help build an engineering culture of shared success and shared failure, driving inclusion, equity, and continuous learning.

• Problem solving – help your team work through tricky technical challenges, mentor them, and up level their problem-solving skills.

• Strategic collaboration - work closely with sales/success, engineering managers, leadership, and senior/staff engineers to ensure your team’s work supports company-wide goals and delivers impact across Bubble.

About you:

• You’re an engineering manager, with 5+ years of backend experience and 3+ years of people management.

• You bring depth in systems engineering or infrastructure, e.g., reliability engineering, cloud platforms (AWS/Terraform), distributed data architecture, or backend scaling.

• You’ve led teams through complex technical projects and understand how to balance speed, quality, and tech debt.

• You excel at coaching, feedback, and career development.

• You value inclusive collaboration and can partner well with other managers, product leads, and senior engineers.

• You’re pragmatic, accountable, and energized by challenges that span the entire stack.

Our tech stack:

Engineering managers aren’t required to ship code directly, but comfort with our tech stack will help you mentor your team through technical challenges. Our tech stack includes:

• Frontend: Typescript, SolidJS, React Native

• Backend: Typescript, Node.js, Rust

• AI/ML: Python, LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, etc.), LangChain

• Infrastructure: AWS, Terraform, ECS, Redis, Postgres

• Data & AI Workflows: JSON-based app representations, proprietary datasets

Compensation:

We offer competitive compensation aligned to tier one markets. Our estimated salary for this role at Bubble ranges from $185,000 to $210,000. Actual pay is determined by multiple factors such as skills, qualifications, experience and market demand.

Location:

For this role, Bubble is currently only considering candidates who are authorized to work in the US. We will provide relocation assistance to those who are interested in moving to the NYC area.

We are only open to folks for remote work who are located in the following states: California, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Texas and Washington.

We prefer hiring people within commuting distance of our NYC office because we value getting together in person regularly. For those who enjoy working from our Manhattan office on a more regular basis, we offer catered lunches, and happy hours, among other fun perks.
