The Opportunity

We're looking for an Engineering Manager who leads people and writes code.

This is not a pure management role. You'll manage a small backend team while staying hands-on technically. Reviewing PRs, contributing to architecture decisions, and shipping code. We need someone who can do both well without losing the thread on either.

You'll work closely with our founders and report directly into the CEO. If you're a senior engineer who's started leading people and wants more of that or an EM who still codes and doesn't want to give that up this is for you.

What You'll Do

  • Manage a small team of backend engineers: 1:1s, growth conversations, unblocking work, setting standards

  • Stay technically active: contribute to architecture, review code, and ship code

  • Partner with product and design to scope and prioritize backend work

  • Help build a culture where engineers do their best work and take real ownership

  • Drive technical decisions on distributed systems, broker integrations, and platform scalability

  • Hire and grow the team as we scale

What We're Looking For

  • 6+ years of backend engineering experience, with at least 1–2 years managing engineers

  • Still writes and reviews code regularly, not just directs

  • Strong TypeScript or similar backend language; experience with cloud infrastructure (GCP, AWS)

  • Experience with distributed systems, API integrations, and scaling backend services

  • Direct communicator who can translate between technical and non-technical stakeholders

  • Comfortable with ambiguity and building in a fast-moving startup environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in Fintech, particularly with integrations involving platforms like Robinhood, Stripe, Plaid, or similar platforms/apps.

  • Familiarity with AWS, GCP, or other cloud infrastructure.

  • Passion for building user-centered solutions and delivering impact.

  • A self-starter mentality with strong ownership and problem-solving skills.

  • Experience with some of these backend tech stacks: node.js, typescript, graphql, nest.js, gcp, google pubsub, postgres sql, etc.

Benefits:

  • Benefits: Generous UNLIMITED PTO (and we mean it!).

  • Mandated two-week holiday shutdown at the end of the year for Christmas and New Year’s + company holidays.

  • Autopilot covers 100% of premiums for employee and dependent benefits (health, dental, vision).

  • Equinox Memberships.

  • Top-of-the-line equipment: laptops, external monitors, standing desks, etc.
