HVAC Equipment Complex Projects Engineer

Johnson Controls, a global leader in thermal management, mission-critical building systems, energy efficiency, and decarbonization, helps customers use energy more productively, reduce carbon emissions, and operate with the precision and resilience required in rapidly expanding industries such as data centers, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, advanced manufacturing, and higher education.

For more than 140 years, Johnson Controls has delivered performance where it really matters. Backed by advanced technology, lifecycle services and an industry-leading field organization, we elevate customer performance, turn goals into real-world results and help move society forward.

Role Overview

You will support complex HVAC equipment projects from turnover through execution, ensuring work is completed accurately, on time, within contract scope, and aligned with customer expectations. Partnering with sales, project management, branch administration, logistics, and local service teams, you will help keep projects moving and maintain a strong balance between customer satisfaction and project profitability.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage project Profit and Loss (P&L) and customer satisfaction for assigned projects.

  • Support backlog execution, scheduling, and forecasting for projects planned up to two years in advance.

  • Lead the turnover process between equipment sales and equipment order execution.

  • Interpret engineering drawings and specifications to develop engineered equipment submittals that align with contract drawings, site coordination, and site installation requirements.

  • Prepare submittals using standardized guidelines, including final coil selection, coil hand coordination, fan selection, chiller performance verification, and chiller configuration and option selection.

  • Evaluate contractual scope of supply and the impact of client-issued bulletins, field directives, and schedule changes.

  • Coordinate cross-scope items with project team members to keep project deliverables aligned and moving forward.

  • Prepare cost estimates, proposals, and final settlement pricing for scope changes and change orders.

  • Coordinate factory equipment orders to ensure technical and commercial compliance with contract documents and site requirements.

  • Generate technical content for purchase orders for field-purchased materials and equipment.

  • Select, order, and track materials and equipment for assigned projects, while monitoring logistics and critical delivery requirements.

  • Ensure project documentation meets contract requirements, Johnson Controls standards, and the formal equipment order execution process.

  • Coordinate customer training requirements with local Johnson Controls service.

  • Support final project closeout and help ensure Johnson Controls receives payment in full upon completion.

How You Will Do It
  • Own outcomes with accountability, professionalism, and integrity by keeping project scope, schedule, quality, and financial performance aligned from turnover through closeout.

  • Stay close to the work and remove obstacles for customers by reviewing drawings, specifications, bulletins, directives, and field changes early, then translating them into clear actions for the team.

  • Use disciplined problem-solving and continuous improvement to spot risks in submittals, order status, logistics, and change management before they affect delivery.

  • Win as one team by working closely with sales, project management, branch administration, logistics, factory resources, and service partners to coordinate execution and resolve issues quickly.

  • Follow standardized submittal generation practices and maintain accurate documentation throughout the equipment order process.

  • Communicate clearly with stakeholders to keep expectations, commitments, and handoffs aligned.

  • Balance customer satisfaction with commercial performance while supporting timely decisions on scope changes and settlement pricing.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.

  • 3+ years of operations management experience or mechanical engineering experience.

  • Project management experience.

  • Knowledge of heat transfer, thermodynamics, thermal analysis, fluid dynamics, and related HVAC engineering concepts.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead large, complex projects with extensive execution teams.

  • Professionalism, cooperation, and persistence in a fast-moving, customer-focused environment.

Nice to Have
  • AutoCAD experience.
