About the Position
We’re looking for an Equity Options Attorney to join our Legal and Compliance team in New York. In this role, you’ll partner with groups across the firm to provide clear, practical advice across our US and global listed options businesses. You’ll help us navigate evolving regulatory frameworks and support new business initiatives with timely, well‑reasoned guidance.
Additional responsibilities of this role will include:
- Providing real‑time legal advice to our options trading and market making business on exchange rules, securities laws, and other points of regulatory interpretation
- Working on options-related regulatory inquiries, examinations, and investigations
- Monitoring regulatory developments with a focus on options-related rulemakings and interpretations, and summarizing impacts for stakeholders
- Providing direct legal support to the desk on new business initiatives
- Drafting, implementing, and maintaining policies and procedures, and advising on the build-out and maintenance of control frameworks
- Coordinating with our Legal and Compliance team colleagues across regions to ensure consistent, scalable approaches
- Contributing to training and policy work, including engagements with industry groups where appropriate
- Helping to build and foster Jane Street’s relationships with options exchanges and other regulators
- Qualified attorney with 10+ years of experience and at least three years of working in‑house within financial services
- Have a deep understanding of U.S. securities law and exchange rules, with a working knowledge of major global frameworks
- Experienced with supporting and advising on the trading of listed options
- Clear, concise communicator who can translate complex rules into practical guidance
- Organized self‑starter who can manage competing priorities and make sound decisions under time pressure
- Discreet, trustworthy, and comfortable working on problems that rarely have clean, definitive answers
