Jefferies is looking for an unusually talented individual to help build the next generation of Wall Street equity research. This role sits at the intersection of investing, consumer sector analysis, data science, and AI.

Jefferies is at the forefront of the technological transformation impacting the investment research industry.  This role is for an individual that intends to rapidly scale our platforms, with the intention to better serving our clients (investment managers).

You will work alongside a senior-ranked analyst covering Beverages, Consumer Products, and Health & Wellness, while helping design and build proprietary research systems that generate differentiated insights for institutional investors.

We are looking someone who enjoys creating tools, automating workflows, experimenting with new technologies, and solving problems that have never been solved before. This individual should also have an interest in the markets and investing.

What You'll Do

Build the Future Research Platform

  • Design and develop AI-powered research workflows, agents, and knowledge systems
  • Create proprietary databases that consolidate public, private, and alternative data sources
  • Build tools that automate information gathering, monitoring, analysis, and synthesis
  • Identify opportunities to leverage large language models, machine learning, and emerging AI technologies throughout the research process
  • Continuously experiment with new technologies to improve productivity and insight generation

Generate Differentiated Investment Research

  • Analyze companies across the consumer ecosystem, including brands, suppliers, distributors, retailers, and emerging challengers
  • Develop unique investment insights from alternative data, field research, and proprietary analytics
  • Evaluate industry trends, competitive dynamics, and technological disruptions
  • Build and maintain forecasting models and analytical frameworks
  • Help identify investment opportunities and risks before they become consensus

Engage With Industry Leaders

  • Meet with management teams, founders, industry experts, technology providers, and investors
  • Attend industry conferences and conduct primary research
  • Communicate research findings to institutional clients, sales, and trading teams

Publish Research

  • Write impactful research reports, thematic pieces, and data-driven analyses
  • Translate complex datasets and technological developments into actionable investment conclusions
  • Contribute to differentiated thought leadership on the future of consumer businesses and markets

Who We Are Looking For

The ideal candidate possesses a rare combination of intellectual curiosity, technical capability, commercial intuition, and a passion for markets. We are especially interested in candidates who have built things—software, products, data systems, AI applications, research platforms, businesses, or investment processes. You may come from traditional equity research, but you don't have to.

Preferred Background

  • Experience in one or more of:
    • Equity research
    • Investment management
    • Quantitative investing
    • Data science
    • Machine learning
    • Software engineering
    • AI product development
    • Alternative data research
    • Technology startups

Technical Skills

  • Strong proficiency in modern data analysis workflows
  • Experience building AI applications, agents, automations, or data products
  • Familiarity with large language models, retrieval systems, vector databases, agentic workflows, and model orchestration frameworks
  • Ability to work with structured and unstructured datasets
  • Experience integrating APIs and third-party data sources
  • Understanding of software development and system design principles

Investment Mindset

  • Genuine interest in financial markets and investing
  • Ability to think probabilistically and develop investment theses
  • Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills
  • Interest in consumer businesses, brands, and industry dynamics

Personal Attributes

  • Builder mentality
  • High agency and ownership
  • Intellectual curiosity
  • Creativity and willingness to challenge conventional thinking
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Comfortable operating in a rapidly evolving technological environment

This Role Is Unique

This is an opportunity to help reinvent equity research rather than simply participate in it. You will work directly with a senior-ranked analyst while building systems and capabilities that increasingly define how investment research will be conducted over the next decade. The successful candidate will leave this role with a unique combination of investing expertise, consumer industry knowledge, AI fluency, and technology-building experience that is difficult to obtain anywhere else on Wall Street.

Primary Location Full Time Salary Range of $135,000 - $165,000.
