ABOUT THE TEAM AND ROLE
theSkimm is looking for a finance writer to join the Skimm Money team. You'll be responsible for pitching, writing, and fact-checking timely and evergreen money content. This position provides the opportunity to be part of a fast-growing vertical and reports to the Deputy Managing Editor, Finance.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

• Brainstorm, write, and fact-check a consistent output of financial content - from timely explainers on how the news affects your wallet to evergreen guides - in theSkimm's unique format and voice
• Own multiple stages of the content creation process, from initial research to fact-checking and final publication
• Curate and write about the most important financial news affecting millennial women for a weekly newsletter
• Craft promotional packaging for content (think: email plugs, social posts, etc.)
• Work with cross-functional partners to maintain a cohesive voice and style for financial content across all Skimm platforms
• Pitch fresh ideas to bring financial content to life through email, social, video, audio, web, and events

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

• 2-3+ yrs experience in financial writing for a media organization
• Strong journalistic judgment with a specific eye for fact-checking standards
• Experience working with tight deadlines
• Experience in a fast-paced environment, with an ability to anticipate and respond quickly to change
• Solid understanding of financial markets, investing, and personal finance
• Ability to self-motivate and be a team player across multiple departments
• Ability to write in the voice of a character
• Passionate about theSkimm and its mission
• Bachelor's Degree

This is a full-time role with flexibility for remote work. Our office is currently closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and our employees are working remotely. We are aiming to re-open our beautiful office in January 2022. When we do return, our workforce will be a hybrid model, meaning we will have employees in the office as well as employees working from home. We're still finalizing exactly what that will look like!
We will require vaccinations for anyone coming to our office. We are following CDC recommendations for any additional boosters, and will always follow CDC and NY state guidance on wearing masks in the office.
