Payroll Manager

The Payroll Manager is responsible for processing and compliance involving the United States, Canada and Latin America (LATAM) payrolls either directly through Workday and ADP or indirectly via a PEO. The Opportunity:
We’re scaling our payroll team and looking for an experienced Payroll Manager based in our New York headquarters. The individual will work closely with local payroll providers in order to securely process payroll within specified deadlines. Qualified candidates must be able to follow through on objectives, quality of service and operational performance within a team environment. This role will also manage 1 to 2 direct reports with prospective growth in the near future. Role reports directly into the Director of Global Payroll and is based in our New York office.
You Will:
- Manage the preparation and processing of payroll, ensuring data accuracy and meeting of deadlines.
- Handle all government reporting requirements for payroll taxes, withholdings and employer contributions.
- Work with the Finance team to support audits, identify and implement control improvements, and ensure efficient processes are rigorously followed.
- Manage regional payroll partners and PEO, including defining KPIs and standards they are required to meet.
- Liaise with payroll counterparts in APAC and EMEA to ensure global consistency of payroll processes and practices.
- Partner with the Benefits Manager on all matters involving benefit testing, open enrollment, configuration of codes in Workday and external payroll platforms along with any other matters involving benefit.
- Partner with Finance stakeholders bridging the relationship between Payroll and Finance functions.
- Partner with Equity team for purposes of recording transactions related to restricted stock units, non-qualified stock options, incentive stock options and employee stock purchase plan (ESPP).
- Liaise with payroll counterparts in APAC and EMEA to ensure global consistency of payroll processes and practices.
- Answer employee questions regarding their payslips.
- Assist with opening of new subsidiaries throughout LATAM region as needed.
- Improve internal controls to satisfy SOX auditing requirements and simultaneously create efficiencies by leveraging Workday technology.
- Partner with SOX auditors when needed.
You Are:
- At least five to seven years of payroll processing and management experience.
- Experience with Workday HRIS and payroll module is required.
- Extensive knowledge of the payroll function including preparation, balancing, internal controls, and payroll taxes.
- Additional experience using ADP Smart Compliance reporting platform, ADP WorkForce Now and other global payroll platforms.
- Additional experience working with PEOs or similar third-party arrangements.
- Proficiency in Excel including pivot tables, vlookups, conditional formatting, if-and formulas.
- Ability to interpret and communicate policies, procedures and programs.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
- Service-oriented attitude and patience to work with all types of employees.
- Knowledge of equity compensation a plus.
- Critical thinking, problem solving and judgement skills.
